What else can lights use? Machine guns are the only low-ton ballistics and that's clearly not an option for your typical light pilot. SRMs are inaccurate/low damage and suffer hit registration issues. LRMs are heavy and don't do a whole lot of damage unless boated.

They don't use lasers because they're strong. They use lasers because there aren't a whole lot of options when you're 20-35 tons. Realistically, lights only have two general choices: Lasers and Streaks.

And? You do understand your a light mech right? Also I have used an ac2 on a few of my light mechs. Ive also used an ac5. I also use a ppc on occasion. My raven currently sports 2 erlarge. I also use SRM regularly.

That said light mechs are not meant to be brawlers and SHOULD NOT have access to larger weapon systems regardless.

I'm confused, are you saying that casual recreational gamers should not have a game that suits their desires and this game should only cater to the elite competitive player?

Hopefully it wont matter with CW. That said the upper elite echelon that ONLY uses those weapons is small. Most groups are fairly mixed.

Played against you Mariks many times mate, I meant someone along the lines of SJR/lords/AS/SWK etc.. who use the best mechs available with the more powerful playstyles. Generally I regard a competitive team as someone who uses every advantage, if you're using mechs that aren't the 'best' for that role, you're probably going to lose, handicapping yourself is hardly competitive.

@Craig, all I'm saying is that if you think lasers are even equal in power to projectile weapons, you probably aren't in the highest tier of play. There's nothing wrong with that, but deluding yourself, and by doing so persuading newer more inexperienced players to try a sub-par build, is something I must object to.

Take away jump jets and you change alot of this. Alter jump jets to make jump sniping more difficult and you start altering the meta.

Yeah lets also shrink mechs down, give them roller skates, and rename the game to heavy gear online.

That was just silly. They should take off the skates, put their robots through Bootcamp and make 'em real Mechs!

AC's should be changed slightly so mechs don't drop too quickly from enemy fire because this does not result into "smart" or "tactical" play but into "duck in cover - snipe - wars" there are enough first person shooters out there for that.

With the actual "meta builds" it is obvious that they need to be put into line with the other weapons.

MWO should settle down a bit in that pace and make fights more drawn out.

You do know that most shooters out there dont promote duck and cover but instead promote run and gun tactics. Wich is what MWO would become if alot of people got there way and what many of us are fighting against because we DONT WANT IT TO BE ANOTHER SHOOTER. And want it to be something different.

I disagree completely. I think if you're too impatient to use cover and smart decisions about your placement on the battlefield, you should be dropped quickly.

Running out into the open and just pounding away on your enemy can be fun, but players that use those types of tactics should pay the price for it.

Nerfing all of the weapons in the game will inevitably end up rewarding bad habits.

He was also in that Fox TV show with the space pilots that ran for 2-3 seasons, he was in the first couple of episodes as a drill instructor as well.

So after saying all this you still want to Nerf AC20s instead of Fix Lasers???? :( And you call yourself competitive?

Joseph, your posts are fun, and your attitude toward drops is laudible. "No surrender, fight to the finish!" Good ideas. I like your posts.

That said, you keep using the word competitive...and I don't think the word means what you think it means.

Being competitive means "as good as or better than others of a comparable nature." What you describe, fighting against the odds, is being the underdog. You can be a competitive underdog, or you can just be competitive...but people wanting weapons balanced (for better or worse) doesn't automatically preclude them from being 'competitive' in nature.

Yeah...I love the medium and heavy 'mechs that peek up over the hill in Frozen City, or the saddle in Crimson straights, outlining them against the sky, and then, seeing a lance below them, choose to BACK up, making them entirely immobile for a second and then slowly disappearing back.

If you're gonna give a full lance 6 continuous seconds of a target that's barely moving...I don't care WHAT weapons are being used...you're probably gonna die if that lance is paying any sort of attention.

Competitive (according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Quote

of or relating to a situation in which people or groups are trying to win a contest or be more successful than others : relating to or involving competition

Quote

having a strong desire to win or be the best at something

Quote

as good as or better than others of the same kind : able to compete successfully with others.

I don't think Competitive means what you think it does. I am ALWAYS trying to be more successful than all of you.

Also Thesaurus equates Competitive with these words

Balanced does not.

Your third definition of competitive is exactly as how the word is being used. But that is irrelevant, unless you don't understand the intention of the topic at hand.

They should half all of the beam times, and add the removed time from the beam to the cool down so the dps is the same.

Yeah I'm not sure what everyone else feels, but I get the feeling that all the weapons are just sort of weak. I'm not saying the balance is terrible but I would like to have more damaging weapons or at least something that doesn't suffer from stuff such as ghost heat or charge mechanics. Maybe its supposed to be like this until clan tech is here? The bottom line at least for myself is that I want more damaging weapons. I don't care how it's done (improving hit reg or base weapon stats).

Dont you love it when people think a weapon system works when they use it in pugs. If they came into a 12 man team with a laser build they'd be ripped a new one, there's a reason why good players use ppcs/ac's.

Awwwww, isn't that cute?

I am As Good or Better than many of the players here, And I continue to compete to become better than more. I do fit that definition as my win loss and K/D are both over a .500 Average. :(

Double armor from TT does that, though I know the "It isn't tabletop crowd" will be barking at this.

If you add up some of the tabletop matches it takes longer to work out what one round of firing did that what the entire game was supposed to take in real time.
