So what builds have you been having success with on the GridIron?
I have been vacillating between two
GRID IRON
and
GRID IRON2

I'm hovering at a 2.0 KDr total, which is decent I guess for a new mech, and I notice the first version I have more kills, the second, higher damage. I intentionally avoided the ac20 builds, as I don't like to replicate designs, and my CanOpener already rules the ac20 roost with a 4 to 1 KDr.

Also, anyone revisit the new essentially hunchless HBK-4J yet? I think that variant just got a LOT more interesting.

Bishop, tomorrow when I get up I'll be sitting down to buy and tinker with the grid iron.  I've been dying for a hero hunch for years now. though the hardpoints aren't what I hoped for, they aren't terrible either.  I'll get back to you when I got a good set up for ya.

*edit* Ok., so after a few hours of playing on http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3172850f2aa3d62 , it's a decent build. mostly sit back behind the 9-10 assault mechs and plink away on anything in reach of the 5 and medium lasers. typically stay the hell down if I see a meta-poptart. they will two shot a hunch off with their nonsense.

best match so far was 670 dmg with 3 kills. worst was 120 and 3 assists (got way way over extended like i should never do lol) it's no game changer, but it's still a resistant machine.
also if you want n this mech is totally capable of importing your favorite 4G/H builds (ac20 mostly)

Been doing the normal 4G build which dose well as expected.

The one I just ran and did better then I expected was LBX (4tons ammo), 2LL with an XL 225 (could also run STD200 for a little less heat efficiency).

Been tinkering still, with AC20 and some sort of LRM (5 or 10) and a pair of ML. Good build, lets you be annoying with the LRM (ran a 5) and 1 ton of ammo. While still being a HBK 4G up close making lights cry.

Twin UAC is doable but should never be run, the mech is made for the AC20, and hence SHOULD use the AC20...or twin LBX (or the later LBX-20 when she shows up).

Overall, great mech, brings some different things to the table, I wish (like most) it had 2 missile 1 ballistic.

If I were in the market for a Hero mech (I'm not), I'd look at the Misery, Heavy Metal, and YLW before the GridIron. Hell, I'd even look at TDK sooner. The big problem I have with GI is the same I have with the BLR-1G: there's little point to a single missile hard point with a 10 tube limit. A single LRM10 isn't going to accomplish much. Nor is a single Streak launcher or an SRM6. I consider that hard point a waste until the Inner Sphere gets Streaks in 4 and 6 packs.

never underestimate the power of a single LRM 10 (yes a single 5 is lulz). That 10 can make people hide/run if they are not near a twin AMS system (that is assuming they have there own). Even then, you are still adding to whatever LRM fire your team has, and causing much havoc with it. With just 1 ton of ammo even its 18 vollys of fun to just throw something different at the enemy, and its really good when you can squish that in when you have an AC20 or LBX with ML (brawler build). Gives you that little long range "I can still hit you" even when the rest of your guns cannot.

I knew Bishop was going to get that Hunch hero, he is always backing me up on the Hunch threads :(.

I'll pass on it, but it will be interesting to see how people like it in the field. The Hunch is one of the more underrated mechs in the game, so we will see if this mech helps change that for some people.

But PGI will nerf them and you know it.

They will most likely function the same as Clan Streaks, which last I hear their idea was for them to launch the missiles in pairs, which I don't have a problem with.

Yeah that sounds fine, but they will still be nerfed. Just wait.

When that time comes, I expect you to call me "NostraSephlock".

Oh, I've had some less than complimentary names for you in the past, I just learned not to take you seriously.

Besides, this is MWO, just about the only thing people haven't said should be nerfed is the NARC.

So I have been rolling the stock set up.. actually to see how decent it was, since I have decent aim with the gauss from my slayer I have been in the 380s to 420s for damage.

I mean, the stock set up has worked for me... it's not been bad at all.

Sure the AC20 and smaller engine ***** will be good but I had that mech.. it was fun too - I am just happy seeing a stock mech like this be good

The Hunch makes for a good sniper/support mech, with a pair of AC/2s or AC/5s and a tag laser in the head slot. Duck back whenever ANYONE looks your way. Peek over hills so your hunch is just barely exposed and back up the second anyone directs fire your way. Pelt them to death.

Alternatively, do something similar but at closer range (preferably with AC/5s) and duck behind obstacles or even teammates.

The missile slot is pretty much a lost cause.

As for the arms, just slap on a pair of mlas as backup weapons. I guess you could try putting some LLAS in there and use MGs or something in the ballistic slots, but brawling with a a Hunchie isn't such a great idea. You are bound to lose that Hunch side real quick and then it's bad times all around :(.

fine and good, but sorta not the point. Asking for people who want the mech or have the mech to post their ideas.

Hunch + Gauss + XL engine + Medium Mech Armor = OUCH.

I like that it came with one, since it doesn't affect the price either way. 200XL adds cbills to the account. But ain't no way I run it like that.

It does seem like a pretty bad idea, on the same level as this:

Since I don't own a 4G but was wanting one, I chose the Grid Iron. I'm running what I assume is a standard 4G build (STD250, AC/20, MG, 3 MLs). It's fun. I sort of had to "re-learn" how to play a Hunchback, but I'm starting to get the hang of it again. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see that a single MG is useful as a crit weapon.

I might try an AC/10, ASRM6, ML build later, but right now you'd need to pry the AC/20 from my cold dead fingers.

I ran about 8 games with it last night before I went back to my Wolverines and Griffins to try getting closer to master (2 Griffins and 1 Wolverine done). I just ran this build, actually was doing pretty decent. In one game I got toatsed early on, but the others I was doing 200-500 in that range before dying or winning / losing.

I am so torn about what to do with this mech. I really want it to have the Gauss Rifle, since it is a good weapon and I love the look of it sticking out of the hunch (by the way PGI the cockpit camera is off, look in the mechlab and the hunch sticks past the cockpit but in game the hunch is behind it) but it is just too much of a liability. The mech will never be the brawler that PGI wanted it to be (notice that PGI slapped together every weapon that is anti-meta for this hero?) but it could shine as a midrange firesupport/harasser.

I figure I will try this build, http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e223a40a3482bde, first and see how I like it.

If I die too easily (not because I was greedy or stupid), I will probably switch to one of these.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8dcbd00c7831229
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4c298d81e1ed76e

P.S. I really wish that I did not sell my 275xl engines.
