As the title says I would love to be allowed to choose different camo patterns for my Founders, Hero, Phoenix and Invasion mechs. The respective Founders, Hero, Phoenix and Invasion patterns could still be available as exclusive optional pattern for those mechs. But as it is, spending real money forces one camo pattern on us, which kinda is a limitation standard variants of the mechs do not have to suffer.

So I would be even more enthusiastic about supporting this game if it still leaves me the freedom to fully individualize my Founders, Hero, Phoenix and Invasion mechs.

And I'm not the only one thinking so:

See how the little Phoenix bits are black? Well, that's because they're a seperate texture, the Phoenix bits use the "variant" texture, the "variant" texture is used to texture weapons across mechs, the reason it's seperate is so that we can have camo patterns in the first place, which is why "we can't do it because it's more work" is a bad excuse because the Phoenix bits are completely seperate from the actual mech skin in the first place, there is literally nothing, and I mean nothing stopping them from letting us camo up our Phoenix mechs, they are in no way special or different from the regular variants.

Here look see this:
Posted Image

See? The Phoenix bits aren't special, they're just tacked on to the regular variant, they aren't completely unique arms or whatever like with the Founders mechs.

Additionally:

In the image above I've arranged all the Phoenix parts, they are all seperate pieces tacked on to a regular variant, please take note how all of the shadowhawks pieces, and the Locust CT piece, isn't even textured, they are just grey metal parts, so they would have 0 effect on camo patterns or details or whatever in the first place since they're never even textured by default.

That means there are literally 6 little tiny bits stopping them from giving us camo, 6 little bits that have their own seperate textures apart from the mechs body.

In-case you don't understand why the Phoenix bits having a seperate texture is a big deal, this means you can apply a camo pattern to the mech UNDER the Phoenix bits, without breaking anything, the Phoenix bits will still color match, they just won't have writing or a pattern or whatever on them.

Hello marepinta,

Your feedback and suggestions are appreciated! However to better reach the developers with your ideas and suggestions, please post here: http://mwomercs.com/...al-discussions/ - please choose the appropriate sub-section.
Please be aware that even though the devs do read the forums and especially the suggestions one, they rarely reply to any thread so they can concentrate on actually building the game. Also, the community representatives read all forum posts and compile then send to the devs the most relevant and constructive feedback on a weekly basis.
As one can imagine, if the devs start responding to everything, it would become a never-ending back and forth, and game development itself would suffer because of this.

Regards,
Zero

Been asking for this for a /long/ time. Why? We can't do it has baffled me since day one.

this game is about selling things to the play and yet IGP kills a potential revenue pool dead in the water. I could come up with some snarky reasons as to why this is but its too damn early in the morning to try and figure out PGI's motives.

Hi there Hexenhammer! Yeah there was a discussion about this in the Thunderbolt release thread and Haruko did an awesome post showing that it is technically possible:
http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__3015120

So yeah I am also baffled why we can not do it? :(

Just because it's technically possible doesn't mean they should do it.

You voluntarily purchased 'Mechs that explicitly stated they were unique with special patterns/geometry/whatever.

Now you want those unique 'Mechs to not be unique any more? Why?

The people complaining about this evidently know nothing about collecting anything. You just bought an Indianapolis 500 Pace Car painted up all nice and special, and you want to sand-blast it down to bare metal/fiberglass/plastic/whatever, then paint it blue. You know, because the unique paint job is so darn ... "limiting." It's just cramping your style in a big way.

People collect for different reasons. Some star wars fans keep all their figures in the boxes and organized alphabetically so they don't ever take damage and retain all their value....

Other collectors take theirs out and display them in poses/stands and have fun with them.

Is one way better than the other? Nope, it is a collection.

Your pace car comparison is pretty bad because the paint job is what makes it collectible.

I didn't buy the founder/phoenix for the paint job, bought it for the different aesthetic look and the bonuses. It takes nothing away from folks that want to keep the stock paint scheme if you allow it to have other ones.

That pacecar comparison is really bad. If you would be able to sandblast the paintjob of and put every removed molecule back into its place in a split second, you could have your pacecar changig color by day or by second without loss of value.

Also Barantor is right, ppl collect for different reasons and I appreciate the C-bill bonus. I don't need or want to brag around with some fancy paint job as my happyness does not rely on other ppls envy.

While people thinking like you deserve the option to paint their mechs in the original advertised founders patterns and colors, I do not want to have those patterns and colors forced upon me or other people who do not like the original patterns and colors. So everyone should be free to get the paintjob and camo he wants.

In the end it is the freedom of individualisation that can put a lot of $ into a free 2 play title.

Yes I agree. I want to change up the defaults on the paid mechs.

"No technical reason" may in fact not be quite accurate, as I laid out in another post in one of the linked threads....

http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__3084585

I have no problem with people wanting or getting it, thoug I am not, as the OP implies, one of the ones that wants it, I honestly could not care less. But I see the old UI and store system as a very possible database limitation... just because an artist can do it doesn`t mean the database or UI can be made to handle it without significant effort that would better be invested into making it possible with a new UI, if at all.

Funnily enough, this may actually help some people that may read it to understand why UI 2.0 is so important and just how far reaching the implications are, that it`s not "just a new mechlab" ;)

Thanx for you support and yes I think you pointed out a very valid point about why some people do not understand the problems and delays for "just a new mechlab".

I don't have an issue with the hero mech paint jobs since they are pretty rad for the most part (besides TDK which only has 1 colour channel!) but I'm sorry the Phoenix camo is kind of boring. I'd love to be able to spruce up those variants.

Because there's not enough money in it.

Wouldn't take much for PGI to do it if they wanted to, given the company is technically more a graphic design company than a programming company, based on its human resource allocation.

I second that. Love my Flame, hate the paintjob. I was forced to "remove" it by painting it all grey; this still leaves me with this weird dragon grimace on the snout. I can live with that; but i'd spruce it up for MC if it were possible.

Count me in asa +1 to the suggestion. So much so when the BLR customization sale arrived I thought PGI slipped up and applied a skin to the BLR-1G(P).

http://mwomercs.com/...-camo-patterns/

So yeah. Please give us this. It guarantees I'll be buying more colors and skins for my collection of heros.

The founders actually would take some time, since they are wholly different models top to bottom, unlike the Heroes and Phoenix.

I support this and for wholly different reasons. As a Christian, some of the mechs, such as the Firebrand, have openly ******* (sat an ic) symbols on it, and I'm not one to impose my values on others, but I feel like the opposite is being done to me in this case.

I love my Firebrand for its loadout and bonuses, but paint it all black to avoid the paint job. Sadly, black is about the only color you can do this with, as any lighter color still shows the outline of the symbols. So, not only am I required to paint it a solid color, but I can only paint it black as well.

Edit: wow, the language filter blocks the word to describe the the symbols they plaster all over their mech... Just wow
