So I've been noticing a trend: All the recent weapon balances have been big Undo buttons on weapon changes. You hear the sentiment "Things were better in closed beta" a lot... but it looks like that it's where we're headed.

It all started with the major PPC fix... undid the buffs.
Then it continued with the Ultra AC seconds after it was buffed.. undone.
Machine guns got buffed and were slightly OP.. buff totally undone (trash now).
Now they've decided to nerf the AC/10 & AC/20... both previous buffs.. undone.

The problem is the last two were good buffs. If you wanted to reduce the AC/20 velocity slightly to make it less effective at medium range, maybe, but a huge hit like that opposed to, I don't know, decreasing the damage drop off on it means that it's now got {Scrap} hit detection is all. The AC/10 was in the "Starting to get kinda useful, sorta" category and they totally swept the leg undoing all it's buffs.

What's next, you guys going to drop SRM damage back to 1.5 and... NO DON'T I DIDN'T MEAN TO GIVE YOU ANY IDEAS I'M SORRY!

Yes they will as soon as they are registering hits properly. The buff was a temporary measure in the meantime.

hahahha, oh man I hope not.

PS: They could have fixed much of the SRM hit issues by upping their velocity instead of nerfing AC velocity. Priorities!

At this rate it's becoming rather permanent like the LPL "change"... but it's impossible to enjoy this "buff" when the weapon is practically unusable.

How would a higher velocity increase hit registration? I hit with them just fine. They just don't register.

Higher velocity registration failure paradox. If you see your shots hit faster, they must be hurting and you can psychologically prepare to fire them again, sooner!

If you lob a slooooooow projectile at a target and somehow manage to hit it, you're gonna be pissed and noticed. Wash it all under the rug we say! ;)

I'm fairly certain that there aren't any other recent threads in this section about recent balancing changes restoring things to their past forms ("unbuffing"), so no Sandpit impersonation required.

Too bad this thread will get nerfed in form of a cake.

Makes you wonder if they weren't trying to make the game faster once they left Closed/Open Beta only to find out, after crunching much data, that the game was better in the beginning. Like the old addage of "Your first thought was probably the best".

It also makes you wonder if they're trying to incrementally increase TTK without actually doing big heavy changes. If they dropped ACs to a 3 DPS by slowing their firing rates, people would throw up their hands and walk away. Slow down the velocity and people grit their teeth but stick around.

The poor Ultra 5 is worse than it was back in closed beta. That thing was a monster back in the day. :D I'd just ram my K2 into whatever mech of my choosing and hold down the trigger... stagger-fire style, of course, pressing one trigger and delaying the second press by a half second. They never had a chance, the poor sods. I have no idea how many mech carcasses I made by doing that... shooting them in the face so they couldn't see me. Oh, wait, I'd never do something nasty like that. ;)

Then again... PPCs were worse than nerf darts at that time, too. Nerf darts will at least bounce off of you when they hit leaving some sort of sensation. Back then the PPCs would go right through you like nothing was there.

But... in the spirit of un-doing. The best thing they could un-do, ever, well, two things (in no particular order):

1. Removal of splash damage from SRMs (only SRMs, not Streaks)
2. Removal of 1 pt heat buff to Medium and Small lasers

If only there was a test server for this idea.... hmmm...

Those threads focus specifically on the recent AC/20 and AC/10 changes. This thread is about the more broad subject of multiple recent changes restoring weapons to their CB functionality. So yes, this thread is slightly different than those others. The OP just mentioned the recent AC change as an example of an "unbuff" that he argues was bad.

and that needed its own thread, instead of posting this idea on any of the above... because?
