Mechwarrior is a complicated universe with lots of quirks to its style that aren't imediately obvious. Trying to get new players to pay attention to whatever instructions or tutorials you put out will be a callenge. One way to mitigate some of these problems is an intro video. You can show the ambience of the universe while also training the player in basic game concepts. You also get player psyched about the game they are playing.
Left 4 Dead is the intro that comes to mind when I think of well done videos. They showed you how the basics of the game worked in 60 seconds or so and provided a setting that made some of the design decisions make more sense.
