Nope.
Don't confuse ease of use with the ability to use them well.
Anyone can load up an AC 20 or gauss, a crapton of ammo and spray away thinking they have skill as they rip apart friend and foe alike. It could be argued that to be effective with LRMs require more skill because you have terrain mitigation to deal with, where with AC, you have your target in your sights.

If you "spray away" with AC20s or Gauss, you may do mediocre damage, but aside from powered down mechs won't kill anyone and just pump your ammo all over the area. Just because we are able to hit an enemy with said weapons were we want to hit him most of the times doesn't make it easy to use. It's a skill that's hard to master, contrary to LRMs where you only have to learn to pick targets that are in the open or engaged in a brawl.

Ad hominem gets you far, 10 out of 10

Lets start with LRM's, first off indirect fire is TERRIBLE. The only way it works is against other terrible players. It requires you to stay in LOS with your reticle over the target if you are trying to do actual damage. Which means no torso twisting to defend yourself, nor can you hide while the LRM's are in flight.

And that's harder than using lasers, ACs or streaks exactly how?

Quote

Streaks are good against lights, ok against mediums, and do too little and very random damage to anything heavy or larger. Unless you are packing 6 of them, and even then you have much better weapon choices.

And still it's extremely easy to use and guaranteed damage with every salvo. So what's your point?

Quote

Lasers require WAY more skill than Autocannons, i'm not going to bother explaining why, if you don't know you are just...god.

No they don't, they need different skills than ACs, not more. But keep on calling me god, better than insulting me like in your first sentence.

Quote

Auto Cannons and PPC's are effectively put reticle over target, pull trigger. Worst case scenario is you don't hit the center torso and you hit right or left.

No they are not. I wonder in which Elo bracket you're playing, but in mine enemy mechs usually move.

Quote

The only instance where these weapons require any modicum of skill is against good light pilots. And lets be honest, all it takes is one well placed alpha to shred the legs off a light mech.

Gee, I wonder what you'd need to place a full alpha on the legs of a light mech. Oh, right, skill.

Quote

One of the best parts of using direct fire, is once you pull the trigger you can immediately make defensive manuvers, whether it's twisting, jumping or moving back into cover.

Lasers and LRM's especially mean you have to hope your opponent is bad (no twisting) and you have to hold target during the burn/flight leaving you open to all kinds of reprisal.

That's true. The pay-off for all that pointed damage though is the skill required to hit the right spot, which is not easy by any stretch of the imagination.

Quote

This isn't a one on one game, so if you are shooting LRM's and waiting the 3-5 seconds for them to hit and do damage, you sure as hell better believe the guy you are shooting at has 2-3 buddies that are going to core you.

Or you play smart and have a bunch of buddies yourself keeping the enemy from doing that, and some backup weapons to defend yourself.

dont come in to another thread like YOU ALWAYS DO ... and make sense lol. Come on you know the ACs need the charge up feature ? RIght? lol ..

Well too be fair, it's not a rifle being controlled my a person holding in in their arms, with their eye through the sight.

It's a weapon mounted to the front of a giant walking robot. With none of us really appreciating the fact that mech targetting computers were supposed to blow chunks and in most of the stories only the ultimate pilots (like Victor, or Kai Allard) were able to put shots exactly where they wanted too.

I'm fine with snapping off some hits, getting a bit lucky and taking a mech out quick. Which is also something that happened.

But now it's just so fundamentally boring.

It's a large slow moving target, we shove as many big guns as we can into one mech, and click the same button over and over with pinpoint accuracy.

And the problem just keeps getting missed again and again!

Once again I played TT for 30 years. Every weekend! I could waste any 'Mech in 4 turns (40 seconds) Faster if I concentrated fire. It just felt like longer cause I had to roll a lot.

That was absolutely unnecessary and uncalled for. Maybe you read what I've written again. I'm using a wide range of different weapons and all weapons in MWO need certain skills to master them.

Not at all, throughout your whole series of replies, you were dismissive to LRMs all along, condescending even, so my summation of your post stands.

I said "the least skill is needed for LRMs", which I stick to. I didn't say "no skill is needed for LRMs".

Targeting difference between ACs/ snap shot balistics and lasers:

ACs require a small lead determined only by the instinct and skill of the pilot. Each of us has to factor in our internet connection, personal reaction time and history of use with said weapon.

Lasers, similar level of difficulty with one difference. They don't require a lead but do require a constant tracking for the duration of the beam. Again factors like internet connection, reaction time, history of use with the weapon still apply.

Neither one is harder than the other but each one plays differently. If you have trouble with a weapon group. Play more with that group and you will learn the proper lead distances or the proper tracking speeds to keep your weapon on target.

Makes sense to me,different weapons with different skills required to use them effectively.
