As a light, my leg armor is my life, so when some friendly mech bumps into me and strips off some of my leg armor, it's not a little thing.

Seriously, I feel like I have to be just as careful around my lance mates as I do around the enemy.

Friendly collision damage is bullcrap, if you ask me.

You shouldn't be bumping into anything as a light O.o

They're really mobile for a reason.

I'm talking about when they bump into me.
It's harder to avoid temmates than you'd think, because you have no pheripheral vision and most people just walk right into you because they don't seem to care.

Yup, and shredding your leg armor running over small rocks isn't' fun either (though it is much better than it has been in the past). I have actually seen lights loose legs from being rammed by other mechs (when they were both out of weapons)

mash f4 as soon as your neuro helm kicks in, run around in 3rd person until you clear your lancemates.

you gotta remember, this is a sim, so collision damage makes a lot of sense.

This is a game with giant walking robots. I don't play it because it is realistic. I play it because I want to have fun.

Losing leg armor to a stupid mechanic isn't fun.

just wait till collisions come back (if they do) your light mechs will make you hate life (or get better at not face hugging everyone)

Truth be told, I've accidentally legged enemies and allies by landing on their legs.

But if you're worried about fun, wait til this returns.
Watch for the collisions.

I don't think it's a stupid mechanic, since we have Friendly Fire - and getting rammed by a "friendly" Atlas and losing armour sure ain't funny but it's still some kind of FF ...

just be happy that you didn't play back in the days when Mechs could still topple ...

This really frustrated me yesterday on frozen city. I'm following a Stalker in my Cicada, staying with the team to provide them some ECM cover. Stalker goes between two buildings, and I start to follow him, when he takes fire and tries to back up. Well, he is running into me, so I try to back up too, but I can't. Turn around and see another teammate, a hunchie, is behind me and he refuses to backup, while the Stalker refuses to go forward, since he is afraid of the enemy fire. Took about 10 seconds before I was crushed like a grape between them.

Keep in mind it works both ways (and on enemies), lights just notice it more.

The other day I landed on another mech on accident and got the kill (I didn't fire a shot at said mech). It was... amusing.

Sounds like a huddle. Honestly staying off to the side of something you're following will go a long way. Also following someone sporting a couple of baseballs in their pockets will help. Too many people don't have any baseballs when it comes to fighting and so they cower in fear when bullets come flying their way.

Of course, there is something worse than a huddle. It's a lone sharp shooter.

Some videos with group movement. It may help come up with methods to avoid running into others; most of these have little movement communication if any at all so they can apply even in pug matches with complete strangers.
Spoiler

A common thing you will notice is our choices of position. None of us walk directly behind someone without saying "I need cover" or "Using you as a wall" or "Draw fire from me." The only time I slip behind someone is to use them as a shield, and only when they are moving forward or sideways. If they even slow down, I'm moving out of the way.

Open notepad
paste:

Quote

cl_fov = 85

save as user.cfg (make sure you have file extensions visible)
paste user.cfg into your mwo root folder

BOOM! Peripheral vision. Seriously you shouldnt be in a light with a stock fov. Like ever.

This is a game in the Battetech universe. It's meant to be sim-moderate. Hell, many of us would prefer it to be sim-hard. But it can't be sim-light. Learn how to work with the fact that collisions will become a further-developed mechanic. Wait until real piloting skill difficulties are felt through the controls and you fall over after a collision or heavy fire or a poor landing.

In reference to Khajja's suggestion, this is a Griffin 55 ton battlemech with an FOV of 100.

Next people will be saying the same about friendly fire. I'd rather see collision left alone or maybe a 10% increase per weight class down from assaults, and knockdown return. That will end this joke of lights bellying up to your navel and getting free attacks on you. How about a nice "Kick" attack that does knockdown AND damage to the smaller mech? Sounds wonderful to me.

Not a very constructive thing to say to a new player, don't you think?

Ignore the asinine monkeys. Literally, if you like - I have a guy on my ignore list who was later banned. I keep him on as a trophy. In any case, collision leg damage is annoying on a light, but take heart - it's not as bad as it looks. Probably the damage you're taking is less than a single point in most instances.

The difficulty with collision effects is that the collision system was broken (youtube search "Jenner Football") and shelved in favor of working on more pressing things like host-state rewind and hit registration fixes (you used to have to shoot at an invisible ghost 'mech in front of any moving target.) Right now, they're a minor annoyance - but one which probably won't see a true fix until collisions are revisited by the design team.

Don't worry; you'll get used to it, and again, it's not as bad as it may seem from your 'mech's paper doll armor display.
