I have mastered TDK, X-5, Ilya, and Dragon Slayer. I love them all. Also own a Heavy Metal I've just started on.
And a Fang whom I hate and who stands in the corner enduring the occasional abuse.

EDIT: Forgot... have a Protector. And a Jester.

I copy your sig, you copy my post? It's a fair cop.

Well TDK for obvious reasons, tied with the Dragon Slayer and a 400XL. If you cant tell I LOVE SPEED.

so tough to decide.

Don't own a Firebrand, but have a feeling it would win if I did. Out of the rest, my YLW, Ilya and Protector are my best performers, though the DragonSlayer ain't bad. And I am enjoying my lil GridIron. Dual UAC ambush! lol.

And really can't decide between YLW or the Protector. Which I prefer seems to be all about my mood for the day. Both have set in stone loadouts that do NOT vary anymore, period, and I am proud to be a member of the initial YLW brigade, buying it the moment the patch was live in Closed Beta. Probably one of the first dozen people to have one. And I proudly drove it for the remainder of Closed Beta, getting quite a reputation, such that when my clan did competitive drops they would specifically ask me to run my Wang. 5-8 kill matches are not uncommon in it, but once the BoomJager came around, it was better for my usual role of Assault Mech escort.

That said, whenever I bring it out, I seem to invariably have good matches in it (not counting the night we dropped a unit of 8 YLWs.... and seemed to constantly get stuck against like 8 Atlases...... on Alpine. DOH!!!)

But I drop in the Protector more these days. Am hoping that GridIron takes over soon though, but truth be told, my PHX Mediums get more of my time than any hero of late, though with the HBK revisions, I am really enjoying running all of them again.

I only own a Protector. AC10, PPC, 2 large laser. Not as much of a carry as an Ilya or a Victor but I'm generally adverse to cookie cutter or really popular builds. Gotta be diff'rent

I like it Redshitft!

My own is ac10 and Large laser in the torso (main trigger), 2 mediums in the arms (second trigger) and 2 ASRM6 in the LT (trigger 3). Do love running it! (Though occasionally i load an ALRM15 instead). Nice build you got though, how hot is it?

Is the PPC in the torso? Is that mount high up? Looking at Oria, I can't figure out what makes the Protector really special.

EDIT: Sorry for mini-hijack, this has just been bugging me

ain't always about the location of the hardpoints Terc. It's about atlas height on the torso weapons, but they are a good all purpose mech. Pretty sure Redshift, like me, eschews poptarting and ridgehumping, and likes to get in your face. And for whatever reason the Protector for me is a great medium range to CQB ride.

Yeah, I lean to that style myself. I'm not saying the Protector looks bad, I'm trying to figure out what makes it different/better than the Orion-K (if you're not using both ballistic points, as Redshift was not in his listed build).

I don't have a 240XL yet
But I am still having a blast with it using a 200std

Firebrand with the Rifleman loadout is fun. (still only have mine with basics though - need to get 2 more Jager....)
YenLo is REALLY fun unless your opponent is REALLY good (haven't tried the 300xl build yet though)

When I am not working doubles or worried about bringing certain speeds or weights, YeLo is my goto hero right now

Never have understood the ZombieYLW mindset, but does seem to work for some people. before my first drop in it, mine was kitted out with a 30=XL, 2x Medium Pulse and an AC20 with 28 shots. Have never looked back. (Have run the Zombie builds on other Cents, and was rarely impressed. I save my standard engine tanking for my HBKs!)

My favorite match ever in MWO was a drop just before Open Beta launched, on Frozen City, my side was getting rolled and I just went full Kai Allard Liao. we were down to our last 3, they still had 7, and I end up nailing 5 of them, 3 with Headshots, my teammates got the other 2 before they die, and the last mechs standing end up being me, in a 37% YLW missing my left arm and left lag, head open and glowing red, and an Enemy Awesome 8T, just as I crest the ridge we both turn on each other, and I land both pulse and the ac20 square in his face.

All the ****talking from the other team stopped real sudden like.

I own just a couple. The Firebrand is my favorite, but the X-5 is lots of fun two. Those are the only ones I've got, so I can't really comment on the others, but then they're the only two I was interested in so maybe that counts for something.

Jester

350XL, 2xER LL, 4x ML, 2xAMS, 20 DHS, Endo, Full Jump jets

Uses every ton and critical slot. Fast, fun and deals good damage at both long and short range. Requires a certain play style that isn't for everyone but it can be both effective and fun.

By Farrrrrr it's my MISERY... Loves my company! #1 mech for me.

Second is my 4 AC5 Firebrand, but it usually runs out of ammo with no backup weps fitted, and the consistent 5 kills a match it gets sometimes is not enough. Including the fact of all the heat I get when I run around at the end of the match being a "decoy" and everyone saying "you know... a few med lasers would help.." etc etc.. but I love the extra long range ac20 style beatdown it can throw down.

Haven't played in a few months though to try out my Protector build again post hitbox fix. Before it was a sexy death machine (me doing the dying), wondering if it may now STILL be a sexy killing machine instead.

Non-Hero I do enjoy the challenge piloting the HGN. The survivability of it with a std engine is awesome.

Before the recent hit-boxes changes to Centurions I regularly dropped ~20% remaining health with it still in semi-fighting shape. :P
Whilst the extra speed was really tempting (I only once ever took the 300xl out of my 9-D, and that was to put a 250std in it) the extra fighting time seemed more valuable.
Post changes I get ~35% at best before dying (which is still really impressive, my ShadowHawk averages ~60% around the time it tends to keel over) which makes the XL more tempting.

That and the last time I took my 9-D out I kept thinking "Man! YenLo would be fun at these speeds!" ^_^

Well, for me, I always got extra fighting time out of being faster, because I could get out of jams that Zombie cents have to sacrifice body parts to hope to survive. And that 106kph ac20 medium pulse strafe and back to cover, is quite nice.

Std errdaayyy!! Hitbox tweak didnt change that much. It was always a mech you had to play really smart in and have aim you could count on. Nothing like soloing some FOTM or making a light pay for being so bold!

I'm with this guys. Jester is my favorite, though I use dual PPC and either 18 or 19 DHS. dual AMS with XL325 or no AMS with XL350.

The speed means I can participate in most of the battles in a match, the hardpoints are as high as hardpoints get, and no other poptart can go this fast. Within 270m, a 40 point alpha hits hard.

I have Deaths Knell, X5 and Ilya Muromets.

Ilya is the "best" of course, but Deaths Knell is closest to my heart.

He is such a bad *** little dude - especially at 170 kph.

Protector: AC20, ERPPC, 2ML, STD 295, 16 DHS. 30 pinpoint alpha, good heat, tank chassis. Much more durable than Cataphract, not a high priority target. After the hitbox redo, the Orion is the workhorse it was meant to be. Definitely a mech waiting for tonnage limits to reduce assault poptarting.

been real hard to tell who is right, since we never have actually got to do a proper face off, either your team is rolling mine or vice versa. Hard part when we drop together is leaving any around for you when you finally catch up. :P

A custom configuration used by the 6th Striker Cluster CO Star Captain Samantha Kotare during the Operation Bulldog assault against Luzerne, [20] her OmniMech was armed with an ER PPC and an Ultra AC/20 in its arms, supported by a trio of LRM-10's mounted in its right torso, and an ER Small Laser in its left. Two tons of reloads were carried for both the Ultra Autocannon and the LRM launchers. BV (2.0) = 2,372 [21]

yeah. Dusted of the YLW again. Last drop of the night.

Team got face rolled by Rhaythe's team on the HPG. I mean, embarrassed. YLW still pulled 3 kills, 2 assists and 519 damage.

Don't mess with the Wang, baby!
