It would be a large slightly flat map on a cold planet... the highest points being on the outside of the crater, with a gradual transition to the center.
with a large molten crater in the middle where a huge dropship crashed and upset the ecology to the planet. So the center would be like terra therma, the next ring out would be like termaline desert, then forest colony, and then alpine snow on the out side of it. The two predominate features of the map would be a crashed drop ship that cracked the planets crust, and Hundreds of dead mech skeletons laying everywhere fallen over, standing up, blown to bits, left behind after hundreds of battles. So it looks like a cross between a mech being used a as a tree, and mechs as a maze.
There should be an overall feel of hide and seek to it.. is that an enemy or just an old mech..
Did someone power down or is that an old mech.

There should be many paths, things to hide behind, but clear sight across most of the map, as it decends into the center drop ship. there Should not be little pebbles to trip your mech, small 2' curbs your mech can't step over, or huge cliffs your mech can't climb up to the point you have to walk half way around the map to get out of it..

Very cool, though I don't think the extremes of environments will work very well aesthetically. More like a snow covered blast crater in the center with the dropship skeleton and the hundreds of smashed mech bits strewn about with the outer edges of the map being mountainous (like Alpine) and between the crater and outer map edge, similar to Forest colony. More barren close to teh crater, but more trees close to the edge of the map.

Overall, I like it. Would be a cool map.

Another great idea for a map.

Just have to wait 2 years before PGI gets around to it.

hold on, they'll actually get around to it?

I like the map idea, but it needs a bit of work to make it well. Plus, if destructible environment comes in along with this map, I would enjoy it.

I think PGI could do that, as they did put in Terra Therma extreme hot crater and not so hot (compared to lava and crater platform) outside volcanoes. Same with Caustic Valley caldera.

Jungle map is suppose to be next. Dense packs of trees narrow paths. Vines that you have to break through or burn through. Huge multi level Mayan temple reaching out of the jungle in the center. With water fall cliffs in certain areas.

Not very LRM friendly due to the enclosed canopy of the trees.

With tree's still being invincible ghost structures that float into your cockpit? I'd be surprised.

I've heard worse concepts, although I am not sure what impact a drop ship would have on planetary crusts. I am no scientist.

I thought I was going to read about a scrapyard of old ships, and broken down mechs. A true bone yard. Admittedly I got excited about that.

I thought the 'Boneyard' was canon anyway. Or at least, as canon as the Dark Age novels are. I know it's in the Stockpole one.

I'd support this idea if the burnt out mech skeletons were randomized so you could have lots of hilarity wrt people turning corners (especially when ECM mechs are nearby) and alpha striking nothing.

When i saw "boneyard" i thought you meant something along the lines of a dead planet filled with skeletons of huge animals ala pitch black, now that would be cool ^^

Ok i'll elaborate a bit.. Take a crator like this..

remove the water, put some lava, closest to a drop ship.. change the evniornment form hot in the center near drop ship, to cold outer mountains..

From a science perspective, meteors have changed the climate of earth, And meteors have hit the earth so hard they have changed the geology of the region significantly. And Scientifically speaking some area of the Earth crust are thinner in some places than others, have a huge dropship "meteor" hit one and its mix of a cold winter (from the dust blocking out the sun), and hot lava summer.. like hawaiin valcano national park, which turn into lush green the further away you go.

And you did read about a scrapyard of old mechs and parts.. "and Hundreds of dead mech skeletons laying everywhere fallen over, standing up, blown to bits, left behind after hundreds of battles."

So let me paint a better picture.. Crashed Dropship, shot out of orbit.. Like a Colossus Dropship... 20k Tons, can carry 36 mechs. and other valuables. Locals start stripping it it down, taking it apart, and turn the surrounding area into a "scrapyard" AKA "boneyard".. The original owers come back want thier parts back.. more dead mechs.. Pluss old scrap mechs, vehicels, other valuables.. They start put thier old mech junk here..
The area Gets so bad, you can't tell the Active mechs from the Deactive mechs.. Your shooting at the wrong stuff, the Skeletons are shooting you in the back or are they.. Turn around.. Dead mech.. pew pew.. now your a dead mech..

Tell me you dont shoot a mech chasis standing up when you see it now.. thinking its either ECM, or shut down..

you can add other elements to the map later, fighting over the drop ship, fighting the drop ship, King of the drop ship..
you can add a Drop ship level, like the HGP map.. i hope you get the idea..

I'm sorry about the confusion over Real dead animals.. But no animals should be hurt in the making of this map..
