We still don't know if it was a company outsourced by IGP, or a click farmer/someone abusing referral bonuses. It's a bit early to be laying the blame at anyone's feet.

Doesn't matter

lying, no matter what

the answer is.

We covered this within the first few pages. The ads come from MMOtraffic.com, a web advertising company (specializing in MMOs) that is HQ'd in the Netherlands and has recently expanded into North America.

Considering that PGI has plenty of their own art to provide for ads, I find it highly unlikely that they gave MMOtraffic.com Shimmering Sword's art to use instead. More than likely MMOtraffic.com just ran a google image search for "MechWarrior" or "BattleMechs" and found something they thought was consistent with FD's art and copy/pasted that on there.

Right, but we don't know if MMOtraffic.com was paid to generate those ads by IGP, or if they are acting on their own (click generating, referral money).

My guess is the latter.

And if they are acting on their own, what are the odds that the people throwing the stones will line up to apologize? Or do you think it will be more of a "Well, they would have done that themselves if they thought of it first" sort of explanation?

The bigger question is " did the mech use the hill climb module to get up on the grassy knoll?"

I've seen google ads for MWO for the last year, but they use Alex's art.

These ads have been showing up on Sarna.net, Gamespot.com, and probably a lot of other sites. They seem to be distributed by Google AdSense, and when the ad is clicked they route through MMOtraffic.com before redirecting to a MWO signup page.

What? Sorry I'm hard of hearing. Talk into my left ear.

I asked if the hiding place in the wine cellar behind the third barrel on the left, the hollow brimstone with the light blue colloring on the edges, is a secure hiding place!

Just for the record, I know people think it's completely implausible that someone would spend money on this just to cause problems. But if you're a webmaster (or even just a blogger) who runs Google Ads on your site, Google sometimes sends out Coupons for free AdWords credit. A decent amount of credit I might add. How do I know? I have one in my hands right now. (RM600 is a bit less than USD$200 by the way.)

Now I'm not saying it was malicious intent. I really don't know what the rules are, but I'm assuming doing something like this would probably put your AdSense account at risk. More likely it is just somebody click farming. Regardless, it's not nearly as implausible as you might think.

Personally, I haven't seen said ads in the wild. And I get spammed by MWO ads all the time.
