Friendly Collision Damage Is Bullcrap

Seriously, I feel like I have to be just as careful around my lance mates as I do around the enemy.
Friendly collision damage is bullcrap, if you ask me.

They're really mobile for a reason.

It's harder to avoid temmates than you'd think, because you have no pheripheral vision and most people just walk right into you because they don't seem to care.

mash f4 as soon as your neuro helm kicks in, run around in 3rd person until you clear your lancemates.
you gotta remember, this is a sim, so collision damage makes a lot of sense.

This is a game with giant walking robots. I don't play it because it is realistic. I play it because I want to have fun.
Losing leg armor to a stupid mechanic isn't fun.

But if you're worried about fun, wait til this returns.
Watch for the collisions.

just be happy that you didn't play back in the days when Mechs could still topple ...

The other day I landed on another mech on accident and got the kill (I didn't fire a shot at said mech). It was... amusing.

Of course, there is something worse than a huddle. It's a lone sharp shooter.
Some videos with group movement. It may help come up with methods to avoid running into others; most of these have little movement communication if any at all so they can apply even in pug matches with complete strangers.
A common thing you will notice is our choices of position. None of us walk directly behind someone without saying "I need cover" or "Using you as a wall" or "Draw fire from me." The only time I slip behind someone is to use them as a shield, and only when they are moving forward or sideways. If they even slow down, I'm moving out of the way.

Open notepad
paste:
Quote
save as user.cfg (make sure you have file extensions visible)
paste user.cfg into your mwo root folder
BOOM! Peripheral vision. Seriously you shouldnt be in a light with a stock fov. Like ever.

Next people will be saying the same about friendly fire. I'd rather see collision left alone or maybe a 10% increase per weight class down from assaults, and knockdown return. That will end this joke of lights bellying up to your navel and getting free attacks on you. How about a nice "Kick" attack that does knockdown AND damage to the smaller mech? Sounds wonderful to me.

Ignore the asinine monkeys. Literally, if you like - I have a guy on my ignore list who was later banned. I keep him on as a trophy. In any case, collision leg damage is annoying on a light, but take heart - it's not as bad as it looks. Probably the damage you're taking is less than a single point in most instances.
The difficulty with collision effects is that the collision system was broken (youtube search "Jenner Football") and shelved in favor of working on more pressing things like host-state rewind and hit registration fixes (you used to have to shoot at an invisible ghost 'mech in front of any moving target.) Right now, they're a minor annoyance - but one which probably won't see a true fix until collisions are revisited by the design team.
Don't worry; you'll get used to it, and again, it's not as bad as it may seem from your 'mech's paper doll armor display.
