And what better way than by pushing it to its limits against something that can be almost as nimble? True beginners shouldn't start with the Locust anyway, and experienced light drivers should be able to adapt to the conditions as they arise.

The locust 3m with 5 spl is a great dueler. Short burn time, short cool down, and packs a lot of punch for such a tiny mech. I like to abuse the do not duel a light in a light rule, ie. I attack a light, he runs for cover or his team (to avoid a duel). I am faster so I chase him and core him through the back or cut a leg off. It actually works. Every once in awhile someone will turn and fight and then the outcome is up in the air but it is fun. But if you pilot locut you are going to die often so you accept that as part of the mech's charm.

just got out of a match on crimson- dire whale afk at the start so of course he drew the light swarm when he finally showed up and started moving. i go to help- first there's a firestarter, it runs off and comes back with a jenner, i'm in my PB trying to fight them off. (of course it's pugs so everyone else staring in the opposite direction of the saddle rush and i have no time to type) whale dies. firestarter runs off. i'm still fighting jenner. cicada shows up and starts shooting me. ecm raven shows up and starts shooting me. still trying to fight the jenner. T-wolf shows up and starts shooting at me. rest of my team still staring intently at the tunnel exits. i finally kill the jenner. then t-wolf #2 shows up and i die.

at this point i mention that 7 of the enemy have gone over the saddle and are behind all of them. rest of team finally reacts (apparently the several minutes of seeing all of one or two mechs wasn;t a hint) we manage to win 12-8 in the end. but you can duel another light with a Locust and come out on top. it's the other 5 mechs with it that become the problem :P

Yeah, that's my baby there. Love the 3M.

Lost a duel in my TDK with a PB on HPG earlier, and the only reason it annoyed me is because I lost by running into an ally in a YLW. Came to a full stop, ate my "ally's" MLs to the face and my enemy's SLs to the back. It really irks me when someone gets in the way, especially when my opponent has those delicious cherry-red marks all over their legs, especially when the person interfering is supposed to be on *my* side. Tarogato knows what I'm talking about.

Really need to come up with money to buy consistent premium and start a duelist's league. That'd be awesome.

A duelist league would be awesome:). Just wish I had the free time to spearhead something like that :(

Machine guns?
You mean those things you use to shoot humans?

4 machine guns = 2 tons (1 ton for clan)

DPS of MG = 0.80
DPS of 4 MG = 3.20

DPS of 1 Med las = 1.28
DPS of 2 Med Las = 2.56 (2 Tons)
DPS of 1 Med Pulse = 1.67 (2 Tons)
DPS of 1 large pulse = 2.81
DPS of 1 LRM 5 = 1.54 (2 tons)
DPS of 1 SRM 4 = 2.87 (2 tons)

You want to know how I get 1K + damage games in my Locust 1V? It's the fact I load up 4 machine guns and 1 medium laser with max engine, near max armour, and 3 TONS of ammo so I can go bring hell on the enemy.
(Also MG's produce no heat. Meaning it's DPS is also it's Sustained DPS without over heating)

hence I threw in "with skill" a lot. (also people also said the "do not..." things a lot regardless of the player being a cadet or a not.)

I often think it is good to show or tell them how your 'final form' will be. That way they are not constantly being like one of those firestarter pilots that is hiding behind the atlas the whole game and jumping out behind it to try to kill steal or to let them experiment with what I said in there own time to get a feel of the locust.

3.2 DPS you say? Man, where did I put that spider 5k? *looks under table* Maybe I will have to buy 2 1v's. An erll and a mg boat... (This is awful I should be figuring out cw builds and grinding cicadas, centurions and shadowhawks)

Huh...
I just have yet to get MGs to work for me. And i really try to reduce face time in lights/certain mediums/Summoners.

Do you do this later in the match after armor is gone?

Yep. MG builds tend to be vulture(clean up) set ups, and rely on entering later into the fight. The best thing about them is that they crit often, which coupled with their insane fire rate, causes them to pop ammo like it's going out of style. they do the same to heatsinks, weapons, and equipment. I remember once during a crazy brawl with an Atlas in my 1V. The atlas was at around 60% ish, but had no weapons left, I managed to pop them all with crit damage, before I even took any limbs out. Then 600 rounds, and 2 ammo explosions later, the giant was brought down.

To his credit, he tried to ram me.

If you can make machineguns work on a cicada (or anything on a cicada) please share your secrets with me. But speaking of machineguns the 1v has been purchased...now what kind of cookie starts with V.

This might help with the ERPPC training:
CDA-3M

This one is for MGs
CDA-3C

I do pretty well in a Cicada. Wubcada i think has my 2nd highest KDR(2.5?), first being Thunderwub.

My Wub runs deep...

Play a Cicada like a light. Late match is a good time to go solo backstab enemy Assaults.
The hitboxes are really good for ridgehump and cornerpeek, i try not to ever expose all of the mech. XL300 in most builds.
B is for Wubs, has a nice short burn time.
A is for ML, i run a XL320 cuz you only need 6 tons of weapons, rest is DHS or maybe a BAP.
M is LL, ML, ECM...i have more success with just 2LPL.
C is for ERPPC...and 4MG
OXIDE i have not yet run but may get it for the Cbill bonus if Cicadas are my IS light of choice. I used to run HBK.

So this guy, has evolved to his next form and has to carry now instead of being carried.

I recommended that he drop Locust for a while to, uh, re-adjust, his elo.

Yet another benefit of the most OP mech in MWO.

Its a miracle!

I just picked up the mastery pack so I am working through basics on the x-5, 3m, and 2a right now. I am apparently a slow learner :) I have realized that stopping immediately when you let off the throttle is a locust trait the cicada does not share ;) I think I am imprint improving (Autocorrect is the bane of the English language.) though so I will keep trying.

Do they have XL300 engines? They are more responsive. They get fairly 'tight' after elited. I like them.

Now if you have the Locust, Spider, Cicada, does that make you the Bug Master???
