got hte 1V elited today and out of the way....hate that thing. on the 3S now only need one to finish that then the other 3 variants all need pinpoint and the 4000xp one. (fast start?)

Something like that. What was your set up for the 1V? I have a huge bias towards it myself because of the 4MGs. I love those weapons. It's why I want the Piranha in the game. They give me that mech, and I will play daily and religiously, and will do 99% of my matches in that mech.

my 1V was 2 MGs 1 ERLL, XL170

I may have stated in the past that I hate the MGs, I hate waiting around to critical stuff, they just don't cut it out there.

the LL gives me the range to fight along side everyone else from the start and easily allowed nice hit and runs from range. My aim is pretty good so keeps me giving people 10 points of damage and the speed lets me stay alive.

If i was running the 4MGs I was doing so with 1 MPL and the XL170.

sadly, i don't see them allowing 12x machine guns or they'll add some crazy ghost heat to it just for you.

But ... But .... My Piranha!!!

As for the 1V, that's a decent set up for poking, and if you hate MGs you will hate running the 1V, and the Ember. MGs are gold on that mech.

Well, congrats on eliting it, and I would really appreciate you sharing your experience with the 3S in this thread. That would be great data for me to have since my mechbays are almost full, and I still have two Orions to fully elite.

I did both those 1V setups, had the same results with both.
Also did the third, LPL & 170XL, for those who hate MGs. :D

Yeah, I just have a thing for MGs. I even tried to make a viable MG build on the Atlas chassis (not that viable)

Forgot, I also tried the 1V with 1ML & 1AC2.
Using up 75 shots was a bit dull each hit doing only 2 points.
The Locust has a nice small sniper profile but with Ballistic being limited to 1AC2 only, bleah.

ammo always seems to be an issue for me on the locusts, except with MGs (unless its 4mgs and 1 ton ammo)

I go through almost all my 1 ton of ssrm ammo per round but I keep ending up with like 300-400 dmg and plenty of assists.

i always wanted to try the AC2 1V but tons of ammo kept me from doing it as i know the amount wouldn't be useful.

not even sure how you got a ML + the AC2 on there. though I'm not willing to go below a 170 engine on these things.

for the 4MGs I always have 3 tons ammo. My rule of thumb is 2-3 tons for every 4 MGs out there.

Sadly that means I won't have enough tonnage to fully field the 12 MG Piranha.

i usually go with 2 tons of MG ammo on the 1V to make sure i don;t run out but been doing horrible with it of late. i keep running into lightly scratched mechs that my 1ML isn;t going to do much of anything to. the 1V is probably the toughest one for me to do much with, may go back to the 1ERLL and ping away from afar like so many lights seem to be doing lately.

i am liking the 1E with a LPL and SL (cause i had a spare half ton left at the end) though. usually do better in that than i do in the 3M for whatever reason. 1M i run out of slots to put things in with endo and FF which hurts going with 2 SRM2s and 2 tons of ammo since i only have slots left for 1 ton. so i just tossed a LRM 5 on it and harass stuff from far away til i run out of ammo and look for stuff for my 2MPLs to open up. also thought about going 2ML and a LRM 10 but again only have slots for 1 ton of ammo and that's not enough.

So should I try the ballistic Locust? Is it better than the energy one? (that's what I have now).

Energy locust is best locust. The 1E > 3M >> all others in most cases.

Late game if you're in a decent enough position to do so, the 1V can finish off other mechs, but that's usually if your team is already winning (and a win-more is never what you want to be).

That said, play whatever locust you have the most fun in. The fact of the matter is you should be in a different mech if you're concerned about what is good.

I'm very new to the game and I come from being a hardcore Hawken player. So I'm still getting used to the various weapons and options. I currently have a nicely outfitted energy Locust and I like it so far, but just want to explore my options. ;)

Remember, to elite the locust you need to get three of them. I would honestly recommend the 1V. However, read the OP for a description of how to pilot the 1V effectively. It's very tricky to get to work, but it can work beautifully. the 1E and 3M are the most stable in performance, because of the all-energy loadouts.

The main difference between the 3M and 1E is that the 3M can be quickly converted into one of the best escorts in the game by putting in 2AMS, and having it run in circles around the rest of the team covering them from LRM fire.

the thing I like more about the 3M over the 1E is the center torso energy slot. Least for me, I've been running 1 ERLL and 3 SL with a 190 (170? can't remember) and having that ERLL in the center makes is easier for me to use.

on the 1E having an ERLL in one of the arms is SO visually weird to my brain that I lose sight of the crosshair and just watch the laser and end up not hitting stuff..it is very strange.

I also try to keep my weapon ground based on my mouse buttons. you have NO idea how weird it is to use a left button on my mouse and see weapons shoot from the right side...it is a total brain fart for me.

I'm a firm believer in finding three variants that are somehow different. If you need 3 locusts, and there are 5 available, I don't see the point in getting 2 similar variants. What I like about having the three Phoenix variants (the -1V, -3S and -3M) is that I have the ballistic, missile and energy options.

i would pick 1 of either the 1E or the 3M, one of the 1M or 3S and the 5V.

that way you have one energy + one missile + the ballistic one.

they are so cheap though if you have the bays, just get them all :)

Good point. I do want to go Elite on the Locust as I'm pretty sure that will be my main mech. Or may go with the Raven chassis. :)
