It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out. I kind of wonder if we'll see people deliberately sandbag to lower their stats.

Honestly, I'm trying to do the opposite. As long as I'm in a tier where there's a considerable number of 'still walking into walls backwards' new players I feel like matches will be too volatile. I don't want a match decided by the random distribution of the variously unprepared. If my team loses I want it to be because I'm drunk off my ass and piloting a naked srm locust.

Hey mad kat, the best kills are when you are legged ^^
Just curious what Locust Build do you use that can cause ghost heat?

Not ghost heat as such but more like the alpha heat spike. (Typical 6ml build).

Firing them 3 at a time with a short interval in between can really mitigate the heat

Ah I see. I´ll normally have my lasers on light laser boats in two groups, left and right arm. I only fire both when I´m sure its worth it because... well uhm I´m a bit trigger happy :D

When dogfighting I´ll mostly only fire one group for heat reserves and for having something ready to fire when a good opportunity comes up :)

So, Isengrim have an internal 1v1 tournament coming up. Most of us have been practicing our 1v1 skills, because they tend to be a bit different from standard team play, and the mech builds are often different as well. There's the four standard weight class brackets, and then the Pirate Bracket - anything vs anything.

Welp, during one of our practices, I brought a Locust, and I found my opponent to be a King Crab. He had dual AC/20, so he could one-shot me if he even grazed me. He was holed up in the trash dump in the corner of the map... I was dancing around the hills trying to get pokes... I knew there was a 50% chance he was looking my way on the right side and a 50% chance he was watching the other side, so I went right up the middle to shoot down onto him, but I kinda slipped...

The lasers are assigned to each arm on l/rmb so yeah three at a time. But if you hit chain fire rapidly theres enough overlap.

Has PGI ever said anything official on the legality of standing on other mechs? It's happened to me multiple times, both for friendly and enemy mechs. I've never intentionally had it happen, but here's a recent hilarious one. I was basically a 95 ton turret on some friendly mech (never found out what it was)

Official word is that is an exploit and a bannable offense.

However, I highly doubt they've ever actually enacted any bans for it. It's such a rare occurrence, most deliberate attempts at it provide either no advantage or so little advantage that it doesn't matter (like an EXE on top of another mech? Mech totem poles stick up out of cover and are easy to shoot, it's almost more disadvantageous), and in a case like the one I posted - a 20-ton mech (without jumpjets mind you) landing on top of the literal landing pad that is a King Crab, actually has amount of practicality to it. Technically the KGC should be buckling under the extra weight, but it's not something that wouldn't be possible.

The only scenario where I think it's truly worthy of a ban i̵͘͞ş ̢whe͞n̢ ̸y̵͟͡o͟͠u͏͘҉ t̵̛̳̫̤̪a̩͉k̦͙͡͡e̥͕̟͔̺̯̠͝ ̵̩͈͙͕a̟̭ ̤͈̬̠̘͠b͔̺̳̭ṋ̵̡̠̣̳̫̘̩͖͙c̗͈̯̮ ̨̧͙̝̯̬̟͕̖̖͞m̜̳͖̼c̳̪̜̗͓̝̘̳h̪ r̨̨̨̪̹̲̥̣͕͈͉͟y̜̩̘̰̞̩̺̜͠ ̷̛̭̥̭͔͚̯͚̹̘̬̘̦͈́͝h͝͏̡̧̻̰͕̠̱͕̺̮̫̬̞͇̖̩̟͕͉͘v̴̢̺̟̩͎̦̜̲̜̺̗͔͡͝͞y̴̧̡͇̥̯͕̲̹͙͓̗̳͇͓͘ḿ̶̵͈͉̭͙̳̖̖͙̯̱̝̼̮͎̟͠c̵̡̠̳͙̫̱͓̦̳̖̤̳̺̩̖͘h̵̪̜̦͕̳̞̼̘̮̠͇̠̖̺̭̖̗̫͜͜z̢̦̖͓̳̗͢n̷̯̜̩͉̦̟̩̜̫͕̝͚̤̙͈͓͢͢d̸͍͖̜̳̜̮͓͎͕͎̞͕̘͞p̴̨̛̞͕̣̙̱̬͉͇̬͉̞ ţ̖̪̞͍̜͖̙̠͎̭̭̖̦̱̟͚̪ͭͩ̏̈́ͮ̈̃ͭͩ̒͛ͦ̒̃̇̏̚͟z̧̨̡̯̩͔̰̫̤͓̙͔̫͕̯̻̅ͧͣ̋̋̓ͥͥ̏͛ͮ͛̓̂ͣ͆́̚̚̚͟ͅṁ̛̱̹̖̞̲̗̺̦̟̮̥̼̮͚̩̗̲̰̑̃͆ͮͪ̌̅͟ù̵͇̯̼͔̞ͯ̄̓̈̌ͧ͂͒̓̉̄̔̃̎́͌͗͘͜͞ͅn͎̺̬͚͚͇̟̺̗̰̤̗͔͚̱̽̐̄̅̏ͪ̓̍̆́̚͡͡ͅt̶̸̟̳̲͈͕̼̩͉͙̞̍̽͑͋͗́ͩ̓̑̾̓͋̈ͥͩ̍̈̀̚̚͢͝o̸̴̸̙͕̹̘̻̤̱͕͕̰̝̩͕̒̉̌̾̉̇̐͊ͫ̽̉ͭ͛ͯ͗́ͩ͊͜p̸̡̨̤̠̼̹͊̿͐̈͆̊͒̐̆̓́̍ͣ͌͒ǫ̵̴̨͇͔̻͉̣̣̝͕̮̟͈̘̻͗̎͗͑̃̋ͩ͒͌̍͒̽̍̆̇́̚͟f̴̨̳͚̜͕̔ͧͯ̊̆̏̽͂ͩͣ̔̀ͩ͋̈͊͜͜ ̸̡̢̱̞̳̤͕̦͈̼͚̹͍͓̝̰͍̮̄̂͊ͯ̄̆ͮ̿ͧ͂͑ͩ̊̐ͧ̚̚̕f̧ͨ̈̂ͬ̋͒̓ͣͦ̊͑̇̉̀͟͠҉̳͍̞͓̮͚̰͙͈̤ͅs̱̦̝̲̰̰̯̳̥̟̯͙̫̫̑͆̒̿̾̽̅͘͘͠ͅt̡̘̩̙̮̭̬͓̩͉̞̣̳̝̠̮̋̊̈́ͬ͟͝l̨͙̼̭̭͇͊̒̇̈̇ͥ̓͊ͭ̓̕g̢̳̮͓̫̼̘͈̗̺͇̉ͫ̂̂̈̿̈̕͘͝ͅtͣ͌͊̊͐͗͠҉̨͉͔͉̹̰̩̤̪̥̠̝ͅs̛̙̠̬̣͕͎͗̍̋ͦͦͤͯ̓̀́͘͟m̈ͬͦ̔͌ͫ̚҉͉̺̹̯̝̥̭͔̜͕̟̞̬̘̱͘ͅc̥̻̦̯̲̜̝͖͍̹͈̘̖̫̭̩̝͓͖͑̍ͥ̄͋͋́ͬ̎̀̈́ͧ̆̇̍̇̕h͕̬͕̻̅̈ͤͮ̓͒ͩ̆ͩ̈́ͬͬͫ̽ͣ̑͘͠ͅ&̷̷̨̲̬̹̱͍̜͕̮̫̗ͯ́̏̏̉ͧͭ̒͒r̴̦̬̻̤̱̼̬̦̹̳ͩ͗̍̊̊̐̈̓̂̆̓ͯ̎͌̓̿͢ͅn̷̬̳̟͍̏͑͑͑́̏̈̀́m̴̧̺̘̲͖͖͈̰͍̥̜̪̥̦̤͙͕͇̐ͬ̏́̒̿͢ͅą̦͓̬̘̱̫̫͓̯̱͉̗̞̘̥͔͍̰̓̋͑̈͂̄̌ͣͮͭ͊̀͜͠#̷͔̱̮̟͈͔̳̙͕͔̼̗̳̍̓ͮ́̐̏̏̎̾̏͋̽ͣ̏͡͝͠r̨̈́ͨ̈́̋̒͐̎ͨ̓ͩͨͯ̃̆͑͠͏͎͎͕͉̝̟̘̤͇͎͙̭h̢ͦ̌̆̅͊̅ͦ́͛̑͏̛̻̰̮̺̺̗͚͍̮̥̭̠͔̙̟͈͜͠ͅẁ̽̔̇͑̿̆̏́ͯ̿̌̊͋ͫ̃҉̵̧̬̩̗̖̬̦̳̙͎̺̀g̀͗̐̎͡҉̨͈̭̞̙̫o̶̢̮̪͕̥̘ͣ̆̍͒̚i̷̷̷̢͍̪̤͙̫̝̱͕̰̲̼͖͐͌̓ͩ͆̐ͬͣ͢#̞̘̮͚̳͙̤̼̣͉͉͚̤̟̳̭̰̱̟́̓̀ͭ̀t̨̪̘̮͇̻̼̤͎̼͔͙̹̘̮̲̱̙ͥͤ̽̌̌̎̃͆̉ͦ̋̃ͪ̑jͧ͆̒̓̑̒͏͙͚̯͙w͐ͯ́͂̇̿̒̆ͭ̑̐ͩ́̃̇̃̅̀̕͟͏͓̤͔̲̘̭4̶̥͖̙̣͉̭̥̣̼͌ͫͦ͋̆ͣͦ̃̔̽ͧ̈̆ͣ̀̊ͦ̿́ͅg̷̭̼̪͖̻͇̬͕̤̫͖̼̻̺̝̰͕̣̙͋ͮ͊̒ͨ̋ͬ͐̊̒́̀̌̅̽͟͟o̡̡̻̟͙̜͚͚̩͖̫̟͆̅ͦ̐̈́̌͆́ͦͩͅi̓̅̿̈́̆ͮ̋͑̎͌̉҉͉̲̫͎͙̀

Some truth to this. I pilot Locusts for the same reason I stopped using damage to win at MTG. Because I get bored with serious play. And nothing is less serious than trying to kill all of the things with the equivalent of a souped-up butter knife.

Dont you just feel sorry for those poor assault mechs that get left behind and singled out by a locust. While im busy going omnomnomnom king crab rear armour hes desperately trying to back up against a wall poor pilot nowt he could do.

Cracking match though started with a few people saying im such and such a tier please carry. To which a unit mate replies sure we have a carry spider and locust. I say not sure you can carry in a locust. Ended up with five kills and about 700 damage between us.

I felt kind of bad for the poor guy that thought dueling my 1e in a 1lpl 1ml commando would be a good idea. Bu only for a second :D

Speaking of LPL, are there any locust builds built around an LPL that are actually worth it? e.g. 3M gives -20% cooldown. Does it stack up at all against 1E 6x SPL?

(Obviously numbers-wise it really doesn't - asking if anyone has had good experience with such a build)

As far as serious Locust builds go (please, just take a moment to laugh at the phrase "serious Locust build"), there's not much beyond 6SPL (or to a lesser extent, 6ML). But, here are the present quirks that may apply to the LPL.

The lolcusts have some somewhat decent laser and energy quirks. As you can see you probably won't want to do it on the 3S or PB. The 3V with the 50% range bonus is pretty hilarious actually.

1E:
ENERGY RANGE: 25.00 %
ENERGY HEAT GENERATION: -25.00 %
LASER DURATION: -25.00 %

1M:
ENERGY RANGE: 25.00 %
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 12.50 %
ENERGY HEAT GENERATION: -12.50
LASER DURATION: -12.50 %

PB:
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 10.00 %
ENERGY RANGE: 10.00 %

1V:
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 25.00 %
LASER DURATION: -25.00 %
ENERGY RANGE: 15.00 %

3M:
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 20.00 %
ENERGY HEAT GENERATION: -10.00 %
LASER DURATION: -10.00 %

3S:
ENERGY RANGE: 12.50 %
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 12.50 %

3v:
ENERGY RANGE: 50.00 %
LASER DURATION: -10.00 %

1V is still best for running a single LPL, but the cooldown is too long, so you can't put out enough damage in a short enough period to make a difference in most matches. The ER LL will still outDPS the LPL with the quirks, and even then, I gave up the 1V build because it simply can't match damage output with my 1E.

Best match in the 1V was still about 400-500 damage less than the best match in the 1E, and consistently is 100-200 damage less than the 1E average.

I have purposely landed on an enemy mech before in my Locust by running on top of it from above. If I stick, I'm staying there and picking that thing apart like Rico in the Starship Troopers movie. So far, no kills this way because the only Shadowhawk I had dead to rights as I was shooting him from on top ended up running into my teammates and one of them snagged the kill.

It was hilarious, though. I can only imagine him yelling, "AH WTF! get it off! get it off!"

Does it count when you jump on top of a King Crab and it´s teammates ventilate it in a glorious storm of Autocannon and Laser Fire and you die with it? True story :D
