(Obviously numbers-wise it really doesn't - asking if anyone has had good experience with such a build)
I run 1X LPL on my 3V. It's not good, but the high durability (edit: for a Locust) and long range make it funny to use against snipers.

Nice TK on the friendly Locust!

That's correct.
ERLL on 1V has 5.3 DPS@844 meters with a burn time of 0.625 seconds. And you can pack 3xMG + 1000 ammo as backup.
LPL on 3V has 3.3 DPS@ 584 meters with a burn time of 0.603. No backup weapons. I's rather have 2xMPL +2xMG.
1E is still the damage king due to highest alpha strike (30 damage @ 365 meters) and highest sustained DPS (3.5 due to -25% heat quirk).

Sometimes I feel bad when I do it, but it's too much fun. I LOVE the acceleration/deceleration quirks to allow the LCT to stay out of sight 1v1. The 1E is tailor-made to do that with its short range alpha capability.

Awesome

I once landed on King Crab, too, but I couldn't get my Pirate's Bane low enough to land a hit on it (no weapons in the arms, sometimes feels like being 5 again and standing in front of the much to high cookie jar

I finally got a 1.00 k/d in the 1M, but unfortunately my W/L is still in the gutter. I made a goal to get all Locusts to at least break even on k/d and w/l, but the missile variants are tough. Maybe I should just focused on poking with 2 ML or MPL, it seems to work will for the 3V (which I just break even on W/L but have a pretty good K/D of 1.53). But, that mech has an insane range bonus.
It seems as if I usually do well enough to get a kill in the game in a missile Locust, but surviving to the end is tough. And I think I might be able to improve survival by disengaging after a kill, but that's not a nice way to play for your team, and not helping will probably lessen your chances of a victory, which would be crappy for the other component of the goal. Missiles just seem really heavy and are finicky to aim in a frantic mech playstyle.

As far as serious Locust builds go (please, just take a moment to laugh at the phrase "serious Locust build"), there's not much beyond 6SPL (or to a lesser extent, 6ML). But, here are the present quirks that may apply to the LPL.
The lolcusts have some somewhat decent laser and energy quirks. As you can see you probably won't want to do it on the 3S or PB. The 3V with the 50% range bonus is pretty hilarious actually.
1E:
ENERGY RANGE: 25.00 %
ENERGY HEAT GENERATION: -25.00 %
LASER DURATION: -25.00 %
1M:
ENERGY RANGE: 25.00 %
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 12.50 %
ENERGY HEAT GENERATION: -12.50
LASER DURATION: -12.50 %
PB:
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 10.00 %
ENERGY RANGE: 10.00 %
1V:
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 25.00 %
LASER DURATION: -25.00 %
ENERGY RANGE: 15.00 %
3M:
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 20.00 %
ENERGY HEAT GENERATION: -10.00 %
LASER DURATION: -10.00 %
3S:
ENERGY RANGE: 12.50 %
ENERGY COOLDOWN: 12.50 %
3v:
ENERGY RANGE: 50.00 %
LASER DURATION: -10.00 %
in the prequirk days I ran the 1E with a LPL and a SL with near max armor and 170ish engine. was pretty fun.

locusts: i run my 1E with AMS and 6 SML - i usually do the rear armor jobs, so the range wont matter, 6SML can easily Alpha a few times. but the AMS helps a lot if you need to run open terrain or find yourself hiding behind an assault beeing lurmed.
the 3 ML + 2 AMS locust is fun for running guard with assaults.
i have a V with an ER-Lg, zoom and seismic for sniping. very much fun, you can move faster then they figure it out, shoot from insane ranges (50% on ERLg).
Only the dual PPC firestarter (50kph) is as hilarious.... (yes, needs to hide behind assaults, but no one suspects that stuff to be coming from the FS continuously).
another nice, but expensive idea is the 4 SSRM2+TAG locust. XL, slightly slower then 120kph without buffs... but fun to hand the scarecrows their own medicine.
current madness.... i had a spare PB, now it is running 2+1 Flamers (Switch after 4 seconds) and a tag. pure annoyance. i think i will do that with a 2 AMS+2 Flamer+TAG again... taking out LRM or SSRM boats with a hunter+killer team.

Match score was over 400 (I forgot where screenies save to now) and I feel much better already.
/edit: I can has math. It's clearly been a long day, because that should be 200. For some reason, I counted the Awesome and not the Nova. :\

In other news, I still have been unable to fulfill my dream. Finding a cheap steering wheel / gas pedal controller to hook up to my computer to actually drive my Locust with that setup. I think it would be hilarious.
