So I came up with a solution. Mouse wheel up for throttle up, mouse wheel down for throttle down. Stutter step on demand, with the ability to descend slopes safely!

Good to hear. Given how the Lolcust only has 2 mech module slots (or 3 if you have it mastered), I think replacing fall damage absorb with another module is a better idea. Because you're supposed to get in there, kill, and get out.
Try the following:
- Adv. Seismic Sensor, for checking around corners before you go out behind that cover
- Radar Deprivation, for obvious reasons
- Improved target info gathering, because you want to see that paper doll as quickly as you can.
Hill climb is a bit unnecessary, I find. The lolcust already has enough engine power and climbing angle that you might as well be one of Skyrim's all-terrain horses; and for those hills that aren't exactly possible to climb running straight ahead, you can climb by going at an angle. If you do go up one of those, chances are you will take major damage coming back down if you were forced to come back down quickly (such as if you were facing the business end of a KGC's double AC20).
It is true, however, that with shock absorb and hillclimb, you do have more escape routes when you need to hightail it out of there. But of all maps, I can only think of Forest Colony and Alpine Peaks where there are steep slopes that aren't vertical walls.

That green jungle. Verdant something? You can climb on many plateaus you should not be able to, and get stuck on branches in a similar manner.

Took it out for one match before I had to go back to work - 5 kills ~600 damage. Solo'd 3 of them, 2 were missile boats, all were ploughed thoroughly from behind.

....I mean, come on. You can already paint a direwhale as a watermelon...
But seriously. Post the pink lolcust up, preferably dropping a pink panther.

I mastered it and usually have "Radar Deprivation" and "Advanced Target Decay" (makes for a better spotter) installed, alongside "Shock Absorbance". Just currently I'm in love with "Hill Climb" which takes the place of Target Decay.

It might be just my imagination (or a little luck hitting the right spots/angles), but with the hll climb module, I most often make that final little step.

Seismic is pretty much a must for me. I've grown way too dependent on it. I kind of wish they'd pull it from the game, but you are completely screwed if the enemy has it and you don't. On the other hand, you have a much higher survival rate if you have it and the enemy doesn't. If you both have it, well...you're still screwed.

Now thinking of it, it doesn't happen often to me in the last couple of month's. I've got to try whether it's my piloting, or if Locust legs simply aren't as attractive to target anymore. Will take a look at that seimic sensors.

I'd use the Dazzle pattern to do this, with Sulphur (or something similarly bright and rich from a mechpack early-adopter bonus) and Obsidian (or hot rod black, etc.)
Just a thought

I noticed when I was poking around that the Falcon Gold (which you used) and even the Rassalhague orange made for decent-looking Bee-custs

Also, I see there is a 7th locust! (I have been away awhile) and why do its quirks give it.... armor? So weird.
I also forgot how fun the damned 3s is! Target selection is key!
