Well, I nearly never pop a ST, so the added tankiness of a STD would be pretty minimal for me, and I really enjoy my CD5 and range LPL modules on that 1 gun boat.
Wouldn't you know it, I go and say something like this and then come within a millimeter of dying that very way. Had a great match on crimson just now.
I started on the lake side and scouted the saddle, and traded a little laser fire with a ACH and Raven that were doing almost the same thing I was. Told my team, and they decided that a mixed light and medium lance merited a firing line formation around the entry to our side of the saddle. So, I told them not to get hung up on those guys or they'd be flanked from the tunnel or the hill, and sure enough literally just as I was saying that, a whale popped over the hill and a king crab made his way up the ramp onto the upper deck. So, being the Locust pilot that I am, I jumped over the hill past the assault lance that was lo and behold ACUTALLY FRIGGING ASSAULTING, and straight into what turned out to be a heavy lance right behind them. I then popped a UAV and ran like a manic chicken.
My team turned around to face the WALL OF RED on the minimap that I'd lit up, and the enemy wound up dropping into the lower deck. Meanwhile, I went to check on the saddle, which was being held by a dude in one of those humanoid mediums, I think I was a Centurion. By himself. This guy was a full-on hero or some such, since he managed to hold like four guys back alone. So I dropped a couple of zaps into an enemy Stormcrow and circled back to the lower deck, leaving hero-man to himself. Wound up pounding on a Nova, but getting tagged by an AC20 round from a Jager, which was where I nearly died to ST destruction, as mentioned above.
My team, however, had taken advantage of the enemy's typical cookie-chasing willingness to target the Locust first to absolutely WRECK them. That Jager in particular chased me exclusively for some single-minded reason. Anyway, we beat those guys and the dude at the saddle was STILL kicking, and down to a lone twin-LPL Blackjack cowering behind the metal thing at the bottom of the city side of the saddle. So he was pretty much a freebie on the mopup. It was a good fight. That Jager had me worried a couple of times.
