Then... do it!

A locust chasis will cost you 1.5mil, the engine another 3ish (or get a Pirate's Bane, for a Locust + a 190 for your other Locusting).

That's a pretty low entry barrier.
Cheapest and most fun mech in the game.

for some reason the forum/my system won't let me quote anyone anymore but I just looked at my stats and the 3V actually has the best numbers of my locusts- though I haven't played a lot of the older ones in a while.

3V- 1.44 w/l, 1.43 kdr but only 22 matches
PB- 1.25 w/l, 1.24 kdr
3M- 0.76w/l, 0.94 kdr
1E- 1.10 w/l, 0.76 kdr (used mostly w/ a LPL pre quirks)
1M- 0.88 w/l, 0.55kdr
3S- 0.74 w/l, 0.5 kdr (LRMs mostly- now a hybrid w/LRM5 and SRM 2- works somehow)
1V- 1.08 w/l, 0.41 kr

1E an the 1M have the most matches 70-80 currently, the older ones are around 30 matches (not counting archived numbers). but my 1.0 across the board quest has much further to go than yours takashi :)

Don't forget the double heatsinks that cost just as much as the mech.

Yeah, but those can come later.
To start, you only really need the mech and the engine.

And the PB comes with DHS stock anyway. :P

The 3v and Peanut Butter are probably a better reflection of your Locust-ing skills, as quirks can make older stats kind of wonky. At least, that's how I would explain it. I do pretty good in the PB, and as much as I hate to admit it, it's probably the ECM that is increasing my survivability. Get a way better K/D than the laser-canoe Locusts.

I actually have almost as many games in the 3M than the 1E, even though I have probably only played like 10 games with it the past half a year. For some reason, I got the 3M before the 1E and just kind of went with it. I found the torso laser nowadays to not be that useful though. It's pretty rare for me in a Locust to tank enough damage to lose both arms but still be alive.

In the Death's Knell however.. (why the everloving a-- did they make the hitboxes on the arms BIGGER?!)

And of course, I have to remind myself.. playing Locusts is not all about the numbers! It's about quick PUG queue wait times and making Jenner pilots mad!

the PB I actually play a bit differently than my other locusts. I (well in any of my ecm mechs- all two of them (ecm griffin the other)) try to stick with the fatties to provide ecm cover since for some reason when I play an ecm mech we're lucky to have one other one on our team. when I don't we have 4 or 5. eventually I grow bored, or the assaults all stop 800m away and start lrming or whatever and I go off and try to cleanup once it seems clear there's no light nascar rush to the assaults.

I liked the weirdness of the LPL in the 1E that I played it more than the 3M though I was probably better in the 3M. I don't think I used max lasers either though because I don't like a heat effic. under 1.4 which seems to be my sweet spot. I do have a few favorites that run hotter but they're a bit more durable than a locust so I can get away with the occasional overheat.

For dedicated fatty support, I'd probably go PIRATES' BANE

Or even PIRATES' BANE

How I run mine, the best thing possible is to form up with a group of lights and stealth run the game.

For some reason, the theme to Galaxy Quest is stuck in my head now... never give up, never surrender!

Been gone for a few days, (San Diego trip celebrating the end of Ramadhan). Glad to be back, and seeing people complaining about the 3V. That Locust has proven to be my Achilles heel. Not enough dakka to make a punch, and too much armor for me to play it like a Locust. XP.

there is no other mech that is as fun for your dollar. even if you buy the PB for 7~8 bucks real money (a bit cheaper if you wait for MC sale or buy 25000 mc at once)

beware once you go locust there is no turning back you will master them all.....

Happy to hear that. I know you're new to the game, so be warned. The Locust is one of the hardest mechs to do well in, in the entire game.

I keeping getting murked by streak Adders.. the worst part is you can actually see the missiles come toward you in slow motion. best just to stay really far away because they got the speed to get in range and you're done..

Got my first "good" game in the 3v! These rewards seem a bit.. paltry. wtf. There was a time when this would get you like 150k c bills at least right? and more xp? There should be increased rewards for playing a Locust, period

Economy is the real hard-mode for Locusts. We don't get as many "kill most damage" or "solo kill" rewards, so we get shafted when it comes to payout. BUT, the real benefit of playing a Locust is how much fun it is compared to every other mech in the game. Considering that, we already get way more of a bonus than anyone else.

At the end of the day, once I build my 3rd LCT-1E, at a cost of rougly 30M each when fully equipped, I really won't need anymore cbills...

Still, I wouldn't turn down a base 20% cbill/exp bonus for piloting a Locust :D

All I wanted was to get my 2x XP for the day. . . I still haven't finished basics on this thing! Also, thank goodness for the lights lance,

haven't seen those setups much Ovion for the PB. my eyesight is too lousy though for the longer range stuff like ERLLs, gauss and stuff like that even with zoom- I pretty much have to stick mid mid range or closer weapons.

They'd definately be rare builds, as specifc-for-task ones.

It's like my Capture and Control PB
2ML, 2SPL, ECM, BAP, Cap Accelerator, Advanced Sensor Range + either Target Info Gathering or Advanced Zoom.
I'm considering switching an ML for TAG too.

It's bad as a general Locust, won't hunt/kill amazingly.
What it will do amazingly, is capture points, scout, harrass and act as a command mech.
It's fast, has a 1200M sensor range, and can stay safely out of the enemies sensor and lock range.
If you move in a little closer, you have ECM coverage, faster TIG time and can vulture / irritate / distract well.

My 'standard' PB is this: PIRATES' BANE

Such fun in my 1e tonight. (And fang but thats another story). First locust match after some harrasing managed to get legged in front of a warhawk (after earlier literally falling off the biggest mountain on alpine). Concentrated on keeping my 6ml firing on his cockpit. His centre turned yellow internals and my last alpha dropped him. Will never know if it was a headshot though im hoping it was as i couldn't see his head on the readout and no damage colour was showing. Thats twice a desperate headshot has saved my locusts. The next match was just as good with some sly kills.
