P.S. The MM can only work with what it gas at any given point in time. If this happens to the OP 4 out of every 5 drops, then there may be something. A 1 off, and pics required if more are claimed, by the OP, and then a 5 thousandth Post/Rant about it certainly won't fix it.

What every single rant about MM fails to take into account are the number of players currently in the queues.

Ever since I started playing there has always been the occasional game of, "guess who won the Atlas lottery!", so this isn't really a new thing. I think there are just a significant number of people dropping highlanders and atlai in pre-mades right now, especially on Skirmish. I had one drop last night where my team's only assault was a stalker and the other them had three atlases, a battlemaster and I think a victor. I don't know exactly how much they out-tonned us, but it was probably about 200T or so. Also, they had all three mechs with ECM and we had none. Needless to say, we got stomped. I had one other drop that was screwy thanks to having 6 lights on Skirmish, but 4 of those were a pre-made (two of which were locusts) so they kinda asked for it!

Other than that, the other ten or so matches I had were pretty even. There were loads of assaults in general, but we were getting matched up pretty evenly. Actually, the worst stomping of the night came when the MM threw me in as filler in a drop between a couple of higher-elo pre-made's who were messing around in the PUG queue. I didn't bring jump jets, and I'm not as good at snap-shots as these guys, so they utterly shredded me. I lasted longer and did much better in the game with a big tonnage gap, but players closer to my level. I still lost, but I lasted more than three minutes and put up more than 200 damage!

Actually, I suspect that the matchmaker has problems balancing pre-mades. If I had to guess I would say that there were two pre-mades on each side - one light and medium/light lance on one - and the other with two heavy/assault lances. The matchmaker seems to try to put an even number of pre-mades on each side but it doesn't seem to try to constrain tonnage until after that stage ... which makes it really difficult if it has already assigned really imbalanced pre-made groups.

Most of the really imbalanced groups I have seen featured a pre-made assault lance on one side and a pre-made light lance on the other ... then the rest of the mechs are balanced for weight.

15 screenies out of how many matches? hat is quite important, 15 out of 100? 15 out of 30? big difference.

But dude, gamers never sleep. The Aussies are up 24/7 juts like us NA folks, and some may even have day jobs, crazy, I know right.

The MM should wake everyone up when it need more players. Makes sense too right?

It could be said that it is "working as intended" as PGI make much more money from heavy/assault sales As and when weight limits come in I'm sure they will be changed due to the outcry. "we want to drop in our Atlai and HGNs" and "you're stopping us from dropping with our friends.
MM can only work with what it has and the majority of people seem to want to drop in heavies and assaults.

But back to the OP's complaint, yes it can be an issue. Usually this happens if one of the promenades rolls all lights, and doesn't know how to use them. If they do, then it is somewhat a non-issue as they will be as deadly as a pack of assaults. In the past though, when the weight balance was more strict, the matches were just as imbalanced however, due to the wide disparity in ELO between the teams needed to get the weights close. I actually think what we have now is better than that was, albeit far from good.
