I started only recently, and I never had a chance to get these mechs. I've read most of the books and played the tabletop some, and I have an appreciation for the older era mechs in the Founder's bundle.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to make these mechs available to non-Founders, or allow people to become Founders?

Cheers,
Sir Tiddles

sorry dude you are about a year late but its not a big loss, they are nothing special.

Edit: If you want a good all around hero mech buy the Ilya Muromets...

Also save up for the clan packs.

They are exclusive to those that bought into the founders program back in closed beta, the only difference they have to the standard variants (as7d, cplt-c1, jr7-d, hbk-g) is that they get a premium bonus (like hero/champion mechs), different geometry (atlas/catapult) and diffirent paint/camo scheme (like hero mechs).

I was mostly looking for the chasis for griffin and wolverine to become available to people who weren't around for the founders deal and the project phoenix deal. I always liked those mechs, but I can never run them, only shoot at them when other players use them.

The Griffin and Wolverine were available to pre-order though the Phoenix package - they should be out for CBills in the next month and the month after.

Oh thanks for telling me that! I really really like the Griffin because the lore and the looks of it, and I can't wait for it to be released for C-Bills :-P

Helpful, man, nice. The Sabre mechs are actually a lot of fun (except maybe the WVR-6K...). Don't miss out!

Agree with this. This is for helpful posts, not whining.

Specifically, the Founder's mechs are:
Jenner JR7-D(F)
Hunchback 4G(F)
Catapult C1(F)
Spoiler

Atlas AS7-D(F)

These are functionally identical to the ones you can buy, except they have a unique, unchangeable pattern. They can still change colors.

Where they differ is a slight bonus (25%) in cbills when played. Aside from that, there are the cosmetic differences.

The Jenner has an R2D2-style rounded top-half of the gator-head.
The Hunchback has a different, cooler looking reflective cockpit glass as well as different 'equipment' beside the head (antennae traded for a satellite dish, etc. Has no effect on gameplay).
The Catapult has a nose cone, to look more like classic Catapults.
The Atlas has 'angry eye' shape instead of 'sad eye' shape, and a single eye.

Their non-bonus-giving variants can be bought for cbills.

The Phoenix package, similar thing but different pattern, and typically additions of either metal bars or thicker shoulders or some combination. 30% bonus instead of 25%. The Battlemaster is available this month mid-month-patch if we haven't seen it already. Wolverine next month. Griffin after that.

Thanks for all the responses and info, I am so happy that I will still be able to play a Griffin even though I missed out on the limited time packages.

PGI has worked the "pay for early access" model very well. It's nice for those of us that don't have the time (or desire) to grind for stuff, but everything (except heroes) eventually becomes available. It may take a few months, but as long as you don't mind the wait you can still buy them, and at no real money cost.

Does this mean the Battlemaster will come out for c-bills. I really would like one of them

Yep, it's next on the list. So it should be out within a month.

It's not just $500 for a gold mech. That also includes the full package, which includes:
  • the gold mech
  • 8 Prime clan mechs
  • 16 clan mech variants
  • 8 Badges
  • 8 Titles
  • 90 day Premium time
  • signed concept art
  • 8 Warhorns
  • 4 hanging medallions
  • 1 exclusive wallpaper
  • 4 bonus modules
Granted, we don't know what half this is or how it works, so it's hard to quantify if it's "worth it". So let's look at what we do know. 90 days Premium time is about $30. So that leaves $470, paying for 25 clan mechs. That breaks down to $18.80 per mech, which actually isn't that terrible.

Still a huge amount of money to pay, and something I'm staying away from until we hear more on a lot of the other promises - CW, UI 2.0, etc. Even then, clan mechs aren't my thing - I'm an old school IS guy.
