For me shooting giant stompy robots with my giant stompy robot is its own reward.

And this is why I don't play this game that often anymore.. It's arena deathmatch with robots, mech assault style.

You're right. There's nothing really interesting going on right now in MWO as far as content, except us. We are the interesting content. If we make ourselves cookie-cutter, if we keep running the same builds in the same modes the same way, the game will be stale, no matter what CW looks like.
Push yourself.

It's hard to push yourself when your accurate shots are scoring no damage over and over again.
"OH look, I hit him! Haha, that'll get him."
Enemy mech keeps walking, unscathed.
"W-What?"
The whole game is Russian Roulette right now and it stinks.

Uh, no. No Isp. I haven't done that, yet, with any BJ build. It's my long-term goal. That's what this thread is called. Not "Say Something Sh*tty About Someone Else's Long Term Goals." Do you have any of your own? Aside from not getting flamed-up when someone mentions the word "cookie cutter?"
...you drive a Highlander, don't you?

I want to be the very best
Like no Mechwarrior ever was
To grind them is my real test
To level them is my cause
I will travel across the maps
Pugging far and wide
Teach Pokémechs to understand
The C-bills that's inside
Pokémechs (Gotta grind 'em all), it's you and me
I know it's my destiny
Pokémech...ooh, you're my best mech
In a map we must defend
Pokémech (Gotta grind 'em all), a cockpit so true
Our consumables will pull us through
You friend me, and I'll friend you
Po-ké-mechs
Gotta grind 'em all! (2×)
Po-ké-mechs!

Sadly it is what most of the founder members are waiting for and why play pool small, as at the moment there is nothing play for apart from XP and Cbills.
Yes we are supposed to be getting CW and achievement (God knows when), but all need UI 2.0 so we wait.

I think we can all agree that the fighting stompy robots part is great and well done but it does get stale after a while unless mastering every mech out there is a real motivator for you.
Here is my wish list of things that would help motivate folks - different goals for different tastes
1) Good and reasonably open ended experience system allowing you to improve each mech in different selected categories. My original ideal was 8 basic categories of mech efficiencies ... each with 4 levels of improvement. Each higher level would require more XP than the base level (similar to EVE skill training) ... there would be 32 possible options but you can only choose 8. Thus you could max two categories of improvement for a lot of XP and larger improvements in those areas or you could get level 1 in all 8 for an overall improvement and much lower XP cost. Redoing mech efficiencies for each variant would be possible for a modest MC cost. Have elite and master tiers that would be similar and maybe a couple of open ended beyond master skills if you wanted to use extra XP. Efficiencies would be selectable for each mech variant individually so each mech could be specialized for your use with different efficiencies ... at least this would make each variant a little more unique and more useful than just unlocking the next level.
2) Leader boards ... some folks like to compete ... put up some boards by mech/chassis/class/map W/L ... etc (leave out K/D since it is too easy to manipulate and doesn't mean much).
3) Community warfare.
4) Achievements.
5) Betting cbills.
6) Bounties ... if they can come up with a system not open to abuse (i.e. not usable to transfer funds between characters).
7) Private matches and lobbies.
8) Improved match making.
Basically, MWO has no metagame elements that would give folks a reason to play the game beyond just dropping into a match and blowing up opposing mechs ... fine in the short term but in the long term player retention will suffer without sufficient depth in metagame elements.
