The Jäger is a very interesting mech, but in my opinion has the defect of having extremely vulnerable sides. They are destroyed very easily. And the worst thing is that this type of mech mostly uses ballistic weapons which, in turn, requires much ammo and the biggest problem is: where to store all the ammunition?

One would normally put ammunition with C.A.S.E. on sides. But unfortunately the sides are so fragile that put them there is a terrible idea and becomes even more vulnerable sides of the JAGER.

And with a XL engine? XL engine unfortunately occupies critical slots on the sides and in addition to the listed failures, make the JÄGER a ridiculous target (if the sides are destroyed, death is automatic).

Do you not think that the Jäger need a review? Don't you think that the sides are destroyed easily?

Greetings,

See Paul Inouye's last update about the hit box's being fixed for some Mech's ..including the Jagermech.

Dec19
- However, we just finished the updates and they HAVE been checked into the build and is guaranteed for the Jan 21st build. In addition, we've investigated 2 additional Mechs on top of the regular 4.

The full list is now:
  • Jagermech (Pelvis area split for leg/CT distribution, more of the shoulder added to the arms)
  • Cataphract (Pelvis area split for leg/CT distribution, Rear center torso reduced by 20%, more shoulder added to arms)
  • Blackjack (Pelvis area split for leg/CT distribution, Rear L/R torsos increased by 15% reducing the Rear CT size)
  • Stalker (Pelvis area split for leg/CT distribution, Front CT increased by 5% but will be gaining more protection from the side torsos, Waist area split to distribute damage across the torsos instead of all CT)
Plus the:
  • Kintaro (CT reduced by 10%, shoulder area added to arms increasing arm hitboxes by approximately 10%)
  • Catapult (Pelvis area split for leg/CT distribution, increased the size of leg penetrating the hip by 5%, head hitbox reduced by 20% (yes it was that oversized) )
This should address some of your issues, "more of the shoulder added to the arms".

It's not a spear-tip mech. It's a support gunner. In that capacity, it works fine. If your side torsos going up in smoke ruin you too often, I'd put some serious thought into re-evaluating how you play that mech or to start using builds that use a standard engine. Believe it or not, you can be quite an effect Jager using a 230 STD engine.

I would also recommend moving your ammo to your head, arms and legs. And look at your armor distribution, too - you want the side torsos to have full armor with the vast majority of it on the front.

And keep in mind, with the high-mounted weapons on the arms, the Jager is great at taking shots while peeking over hills, keeping the majority of the 'Mech behind cover.

The Jäger's greatest strength is not the AC40 Jägerbomb as many people think. Its huge side torsos and reliance on XL engines make it a fairly poor brawler. No, the Jäger shines as an AC2/AC5 long range support boat. It can spit out stupid amounts of damage from behind cover for an almost stupid length of time, melting everything in front of it. Built with a small standard engine (you don't need to close with targets and you should be behind the main force. Speed isn't important), the Jäger is a very potent package. Yes, its side torsos are weak, but this is a way of encouraging it to be built and played like it was designed in canon; a long range ballistics boat.

The jagermech is a support mech and should be used as such, not in a shamefull way as an AC40 mech.

I play with firebrand, DD and S and i learned to adapt. I keep my range, i stick with friendlies.

dont know why i ever sold my S my quad ultra autocannon setup was just too funny, cant really get much more fire support than something with 4 ultras to tear the enemy apart

This is fairly accurate to tabletop actually. The Jager (along with other 65 tonners) has a maximum of 30 armour split between the front and rear arcs in its LT/RT, compared to 42 for the CT. Legs can mount 30 (without having to split), and arms can mount 20 (same). Double those values for MWO ratings. End result is that even on a fully-armoured Jager the side torsi might as well have bullseyes painted on them. Nice to see the dev team addressing the problem ;)

A mech that can bolt on so much firepower had better have a weakness.

Keep in mind that I and many many many other players also will specifically aim for a side torso on a fast, heavily loaded Jagermech.

I do the same thing when I see an Atlas, that heavy ballistic RT needs to go, and it's not that hard to hit. No matter how small they make it, people will continue to focus on your side torso if they think they can put you down quickly by doing so.

It's one of the biggest reasons I never aim for the CT of a Victor.

One can always run a standard engine Jager.

Small standard engine long range fire support Jägers are my best mechs. I love how destructive they are.

No.

To compensate, the Jaeger gets really high arms to allow it to peek over hills and shoot. Jaeger is not a brawler.

Back to the orignal post. Jagers can bring a whole lot of pain. They need to be a little weak somewhere, And they are still survivable since not THAT many people actually take the time to aim that well.

I ripped the XL's out of my victor's seem they get shouldered more than jagers. At least in my experience. But I do brawl those..

Now back on topic.

@Barth: I'm gunnin' for your shoulders from now on.

And he has a point. The few times I have been in any mech other then lights, was in a Jager, and more often then not-I would get hit in the CT more then my shoulders.

Maybe its a psychological thing when people are shooting at you?

Like having super big rims on your car, people don't want to mess them up because their glaringly huge and it would be against nature? Maybe that's why fantasy armor has such huge shoulder pads...

But it is kinda weird. I will have to try and gather more data.

Coring out the sides on the Jag is the only effective counter to the ac40 cheese...... I think the Jags are just fine, my Firebrand is very survivable ('course, I don't cheese mine).

I always go for the side torso on a jeager, just today I killed two cocky jeagers in the same match when then ran straight at my protector.

I run mine with duel ac10s backed up with quad mlas, 7 tons of ammo usually lasts the whole match, I've also had good luck with 3 ac5s though it tends to lack the finishing power of the duel 10s.

Until they fix ultras so the first single shot does not jam the gun boating them is a gamble.

Side torso protects very good CT. Just use STD problem solved.
