"Fire Ant A vicious anti-infantry variant, the Fire Ant's origin is a mystery, though it was first seen sometime after 3058 and disappeared after 3068. Possibly the predecessor to the 19 and 20, the Fire Ant removed a half ton of armor in favor of six Machine Guns and three Flamers.[4] BV (2.0) = 332"

Too bad, it isn't around for 7 years (3058). Not likely, though a 6 MG light would be delicious.

Hey, we got the Oxide (Jenner IIC)! Why not?

Plus they could bump the timeline, or whatever!

9 hardpoints is too many, they'd never put that many on a 20 ton mech

Why? They've already given the missile locust more hardpoints than it is realistically ever going to use.

The new light will most likely be the Firestarter.

Or maybe flea with no MASC. :P

Per my ask the devs question in ATD #48 the flea is coming, as is masc, and will happen probably in spring per that previous info.

The fire ant needs to be the Hero Flea, 9 hard points isn't too much for an ultralight.

You'll never use them so what's the difference?

A bit of working it out I figured you can eek out about 7 free tons which you can invest in a max alpha of like 35. Now the heat of that might be prohibitive.

but is anyone afraid of a Locust with a max alpha of 25? no cause a locust isn't scary not enough armor not favorable enough hit boxes, etc.

The Fire Ant is legit though. Even if it was first seen in 3058 lets say it was made 8 years soon and is being battle tested against the new clan invasion.

I'd buy one for the luls

A slow locust is a dead locust though.

It doesn't need to be very slow. Just dropped down to XL180 instead of XL190, and dropped a few points of armor. The main drawback is she runs out of ammo pretty quick:

Now Sephlock you know that I'm a big fan of the Flea, but I didn't know about the Fire Ant variant; it certainly sound special.

Personally I can't wait till we get the Flea, want to get some payback against the Jenner's and I see the Flea as the prime contender for this role.

On the other hand, take a look at the Oxide, AKA the Jenner IIC that HAD six missile hardpoints but the super secret testing team (the same one that deemed true 2.0 dhs "too good") decided that six was too much and now we have four :P.

If we DO get a fire ant they'll make it have 2 ballistic slots in each arm and 1 energy slot in the torso.

Is there much point in taking four SRM2s vs 2 SRM4s?

Faster reload time (2.5s compared to 3.25s), and possibly tighter spread.

SRM4 DPS: 2.46
SRM2x2 DPS: 1.6 x 2 = 3.2

SRM4x2: 2.46 x 2 = 4.92
SRM2x4: 1.6 x 4 = 6.4

Spread hasn't changed the last time the SRM trajectory photo (by Tennex IIRC) was produced.

SRM spread is atrocious, unless Artemis is in use. Then again... hit detection is still terribad, if not inconsistent at best.

Also chainfired they 4x Srm 2 seems to have very little issues with hit registration.

Back on the original topic.. Wasn't the Fire ant the non canon name given to the flea mechs in the Mechcommander 2 game?
