Feb 4th discussion begins at ~ 25:40, new mech teasing comes a bit after, maybe a minute or so. I don't know, he sounded very non commital about it being a light mech, with the rest of them pushing on it and bringing up different light mechs and him saying he can't confirm anything, other than that it is a new chassis, hero first on the 4th. They specifically mention the previous episode where a controversial light mech is mentioned, and he says he doesn't know if they're talking about the same thing. It probably is a new light mech, but I won't hold my breath.

Edit: Russ' twitter seems to confirm it as a new light mech as of 1/23/14. Cheers!

For some reason I forgot about Firestarter.

Speaking of fire, what about Fire Ant? :)

I just listened to teh Podcast.. A light HERO on teh 4th is a possibility... but I don`t hear anything about the new chassis necessarily coming along with it that month, though it is kind of semi implied just before he moves to assault revamps....

But that could also be the controversy, that we don`t get the cbill chassis until april... :)

Why cant it be the urbanmech? That would be controversial... and the urbanmech is certainly famous.

I kindve doubt its the wolfhound because the wolfhound is in every way worse than a jenner and there arnt even 3 different variants available.

Because it's universal at the same time. Everybody had one, even your grandma.

It's the Urbanmech.

...and "controversial" because it's probably going to break from canon slightly so that it can actually be viable in this game.

Firefly could also be an option I guess.

Only 30t tho, and were supposedly quite rare, at least until the dragoons came to the IS.

the FFL-4DA comes with ecm also..........

While produced on and off until the early Succession Wars, excessive losses of the lightly armored design led Earthwerks to switch its production line to manufacturing heavier designs. This changed with the arrival of the Wolf's Dragoons, who brought with them a large number of Fleas and reached an exclusive production arrangement with Earthwerks that resulted in the company opening new lines to replenish the Dragoons' losses in the Fourth Succession War. With multiple lines on Asuncion, Bernardo and Victoria, after letting the Dragoons' exclusivity clause lapse, Earthwerks started selling the easy to manufacture, easy to maintain 'Mech by the DropShip load across the Inner Sphere.

My money is on the urbie.

"controversial"

The Capellan Confederation remained the largest and only user of UrbanMechs to actually deploy them for front-line duty

There are 4 options that fit all the criteria of contraversal, humanoid, faction iconic, and completely unseen to date. We know it won't be the Urbanmech (it's engine isn't even in game), or the Panther (that was denied in the podcast). So the first choice is the Hermes, it has 3 variants at the time of 3050 (even if some of them were mothballed). It's speedy, all energy and quite a tiny profile much like the current Spider. The next is the Firestarter, it's mostly energy hardpoints and the stock configurations are going to be very lackluster. With heavy energy hardpoints, some minor ballistic, and jump-jets it could be a contender. However it's not affiliated with a house and they were typically only used under special circumstances (involving fires).

The Wolfhound is an toss up, whilst it is in production, it is iconic to Merc unit's the Wolf's Dragoons and Kell Hounds, it just doesn't have the variants to really support it (they all revolve around the same set-up just moving rear-arc weapons forward etc.). The Javelin, seen as a House Davion scout mech, involved the same roles as the Steiner Commando. It was a light weight hit and run machine, with jump-jets and speed it could get in and out quite effortlessly and heavily incorporated into the Federated Suns war machine. There are 3 notable variations, from the SRM6 10N, to the 4ML 10F, followed by the Helm Core revamp 10P.

The Javelin is also a prime candidate because of recent plugs that the Jenner hero mech "Oxide" is feeling weak... Whilst not the strongest solo light mech, as a wing-man style machine hunting other lights the 4SSRM's really tear apart smaller targets, luck-fully it didn't get jump-jets or it would be the new Jenner you would only see. However why should it feel weak now? Because their comparing it to something that's most likely out performing it, whilst lighter, the Javelin does come with Jump-jets with gives it the trump card on the "Oxide" all missile light.

The Hermes would have some potential but would really need MASC to have a proper spread of variants.

The Mongoose is a decent option, and could be controversial since it's a 25t ComGuard mech, which would make it a faction-specific light but not belonging to a House proper.

By controversial they could mean, the design looks drastically different from TRO. or that somehow the loadout has changed from cannon in a weird way.

for example if the flea were released without MASC. or that Urbanmech is released with different starting engine/altered loadout from canon. since the canon urbanmech would not work in this game's mechlab.

just putting it out there

Who said it had to be humanoid?

Urbie
Firestarter
Wolfhound
Hussar
Javelin
Mercury....

There are a few, and controversial could be a label applied to more than one of them.
