If its light and controversial there are a few choices.

Urbanmech
Firestarter
Hollander

My guess is its going to be the Hollander.

YES!

And if there is nothing in that slot, there should be a giant lance!

I would rather it be a wolfhound so I could add it to my "Appeared in the cartoon" collection.

Wolfhound is controversial because for a light it's big, it's heavy (at 35 tons) and it's slow. More of a brawling light but it'd be easily susceptible to higher tonnage mechs. But considering it was designed to directly counter the Panther it's unlikely we'll see it.

I'm pretty sure it was in MW4 however with no Panther to be found. So the logic for it's design may not mean much. It means even less when you have a mechlab anyway.

I would rather have the Javelin so I could add it to my "Appeared as a mini with the Citytech game" collection  Although stats for the Wolfhound came with that game too. I would almost rather have the Firestarter but I'm curious either way.

the wolfhound would be 100% pointless though

1) doesnt have three different variants
2) less hardpoints than jenner
3) no jumpjets

I don't know that 2 or 3 are actual reasons for not including it. They always add extra hard points to mechs, so that's kind of a non-issue, and not having jump jets is hardly a reason to dis-include it.

There actually are 3 variants.

The Wolfhound may be popular, but it was firstly only used by the Kell Hounds and Wolfs Dragoons. Can the two merc units be called a particular faction?

"Popular Faction" and "Mary-Sue Faction" are fairly interchangeable so I'd say yes, they qualify.

Meh, like we really need another useless light.

Hollander would be sweet but not terribly timeline appropriate.

It's a mech without a comparable mech in game. no light support mechs currently in game.

I would really love to see the Hollander, but just for funzies.

Imagine shooting the Gauss with that thing, it should fly at least 20 meters backwards from the recoil.

[EDIT - change of opinion]

In my opinion there is nothing more controversial than ECM, but not just ECM, but something to take ECM to new heights of abuse. Who are the contenders:

Firefly - ECM and Jump and a crapload of hardpoints.

Hussar - ECM and a new landspeed record, maybe...

Javelin - ECM and lots of missile ports. Remember way back to... yesterday when Russ said they were originally worried about the Oxide originally having 6 missile hardpoints (reduced to 4), and how it was foolish in retrospect... well, compared to a 4x SSRM2 ECM Javelin, yes, because this mech will be stupidly powerful and they would not sold another Oxide (or other hero mech) ever.

Oh how I would absolutely love the Firestarter to make it into the game!

The controversy could be easily be one of the two things. The first is it boats flamers and they have limited viability at the moment. The second is that it boats flamers and will be released with a corresponding flamer buff that makes them an intimidating threat.

Either way, I hope it is the Firestarter. Even if it is only a hero released, the knowledge that it made it in will keep me going!

From the Technical Readout: 3025 —

Quote

UrbanMechs were, in fact, among the last defenders of the Star League, fighting for control of vital urban centers as civil authority collapsed around them. Many were destroyed in the carnage, which is why the 'Mech is rarely seen outside Liao space.

It's a good bet Russ and the boys draw from primary sources (another reason why we should all maintain print libraries, and not always rely on Sarna).

Wolfhound was in MW4 Black Knight and Mercs. Panther was in Mekpak 3.1. That thing was one of the lightest poptarts in that game.

Neither is Angel ECM.

On the other hand, there weren't a kajillion Yen Lo Wangs either, and yet we have plenty of those...

The Hollander is out. It doesn't have enough variants. It can't be in the game, unless they're going to let one or more of the variants count as medium mechs.

I'd love to see the Firestarter, or the Firefly. I'd also really like to see the Javelin as a fast, jumpy 30 ton commando, but with SRMs being how they are right now...
