It just occurred to me that the next light 'mech won't be the Urbanmech, simply because it weights 30 tons and not 35 tons.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Urbanmech

Although I just assumed that the next chassis will be a 35 tonner. I thought that was confirmed but unsure now :P

As far as I know those details were given during an NGNG interview (which I personally have not heard) but the audio is available fom NGNG podcast #100 http://www.nogutsnog...hp?topic=1629.0

I listened to that pod cast. Russ does not confirm in that pod cast that it is indeed a light, nor does he even confirm that the mech is controversial. Those are quotes presumably from Bryan E. related by the NGNG crowd that have to do with an upcoming potentially controversial light. He states that he is not sure if what he is talking about is the same thing that Bryan E. was talking about.

He does state that it is not the Panther.

Russ said on twitter:

"I was playing the new her mech of the new light chassis today. I think this chassis in general is going to be very popular"

And that it would release Feb 4th

Yes, I did see that twitter post... some of the other "facts" in the thread though I have seen no official stance on. That doesn't mean there isn't an official statement out there somewhere I just haven't seen it. If anyone has a link please share.

That its 35 tons.
That its humanoid.

Urbie, if they can figure a way to do things right would be the fan-favorite winner. I can see them hopping along the artic peaks like little mountain goats of dakka.... :P And of course, it'd mean PGI figured out how to do small engines right.

Firestarters would be the by-far most useful light they could add, though. The -A is an 8-hardpoint energy boat, the H is six and a pair of MG points, which makes them compete fine with the Raven. The -S is for "simply fantastic", as it's got the gold standard of ECM, jump capacity, and even more laser pew-pew than a Jenner if it so desires.

Also, the eventual Firestarter Omnimech is actually pretty dang good.

Bryan said in podcast it would be humanoid, i doubt it very much that they are talking about different upcoming lights.
35 ton claim is a mistake because that was just a guess in the podcast by ngng.

Firestarter battlemech is pretty dang good, too. FS9-H has 2 ballistic and 6 energy, FS9-S1 has 7 energy and ECM, FS9-A has 8 energy, FS9-K has 5 energy, FS9-M has 5 energy and 2 ballistic... if they raise the engine cap on the ones with fewer hardpoints, they'd all be perfectly viable.

I think another reason why the Firestarter might be controversial is because most of its stock configuration have at least two flamers. And if I get a Firestarter, I will mount at least two flamers on it :P

Lets not forget about the FS9-C which has 8 energy and 2 missile hardpoints. However I think this variant came out a bit later.

If we take the statement that Spider is "controversal" for a fact, then perhaps Venom is coming ?

Love that Mech ! :(

100% agree. I was just looking through the 3055 tech readout and saw that the Venom was first rolled out in 3050. This fits the timeline, its humanoid, and it will p!ss people off. Great hero for the Spider fans. I just hope they fixed the hit box issue.

It will be controversial if they release a hero Venom and it isn't red, white, and black, and named Carnage.

I hadnt considered this, but what if the heromech is a WolfhoundIIC? With clan tech... I mean it would make sense since phelan kell's wolfhound was refitted with clan tech. And it would certainly be controversial to have a paid mech with clan weapons.

One theory (my theory, apparently shared independently by a couple others) is that the UrbanMech will be a non-canon 35 tons in order to carry canon armament without laughably slow (if still slow) speed.

This is essentially what the R60 would look like. Pushing into pure fantasy conjecture, the 'Mech would enjoy some very special mobility and profile perks.

I'm 99% sure it will be the Firestarter, and it may be the first light I'll buy since 2012 (Jenner for life)

Haven't spent any time in a light since I retired my Raven, a new hero might get me back into the sub 40 weight range.
