I'm posting this on behalf of a friend in my unit.
He is having some serious latency issues with MWO. He lives in Cluj-Napoca in Romania with a very fast connection. However when tracing the connection to MWO servers he is perfectly fine up until he hits Canada, whereby it drops to abysmal levels.
Is there anything that can be done? It seems to be because the route it takes from Romania to Canada causing the issue...
Would some kind of proxy help? Would he need to talk to his ISP?

Its like that for everyone. Transcontinental servers aren't exactly known for their speed. Care to give us a ping amount?

I'll have to get him to provide me with the traceroute he did etc. Most of my unit are UK and europe based. We have pings around 120ms, his is around 200ms+.
However MWO is the only game where this happens to him. I remember when he was talking about it on TS he has great latency even across the seas until he hit a specific location.
But as I said I'll get him to provide me with the exact details so I can post them here.

Ok first tracert is his:

He is in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Second is mine:

I'm in lincolnshire england. his connection is at least 20 times faster than mine. Mine maxes out at 1.2mb/s.

He gets no lag at all in ANY other game-no matter where the server is located. Just MWO.

Evidently the xe-***-tor10 interchange is causing slowdowns for both of you.

It is entirely possible that no other game you play goes through that interchange.

And no, there isn't anything you can do -- except hope that the tinet.net routers/servers get upgraded.

Thanks for the reply guys-most helpful. I would like to clarify-I personally, have 0 issues with latency. Maybe it's the extra hops he has that do the damage, who knows....

Keep in mind that just because someone has a good connection to some games does not mean a good connection to all games. Physical location matters, and it could be something like a specific route that's to blame- it might not be on PGI's end and it might not be on your friend's end either.

I once couldn't play because all my packets were going on a one-way trip to Guam due to misrouting.
