Still, a Locust can carry an AC/5. Even a UAC/5.

Haven't tried that, sounds like it might be a fun way to finally master one of them.

Going with Nick Makiaveli's suggestion for Trial Run #2.

Dropping a ton of MG ammo and supplementing with AC5 ammo.
Most of my damage was done at distance, since my armor is the same as that of a wet paper towel.

Another thought is drop the laser in favor of armor. You would still have the MGs for late game dueling, and if you stick to Conquest or Assault you could always cap if you ran out of AC ammo....

Granted that may not fit your playstyle, and I am no Koniving, so proceed with caution

Be warned; you're a glass cannon with it. Every shot needs to count, and you definitely can't be front-line. It's really good for kill steals and getting component destruction in. And if a light finds you, you're kinda screwed.

I like to use an Atlas or other high priority heavy/assault as a walking wall. Which takes plenty of awareness as you don't want to block 'em.

I hear ya, course a Locust rarely survives a duel anyway. I tend to run n' gun but I can see where this would be a learning experience

Ok so.... I'm in a light mech... I'm in a light mech... I'm in a light mech....

Apparently I have to keep telling myself this... Since I find myself in slug fests with Juggernauts.
Float like a butterfly.... sting like a bee....

Death by 1000 paper cuts..... wait a minute. Thats my new sig. lol

The load is good. I just need to remember I can't stand toe to toe.

If fighting up close is too hard, consider the sniper's route.

Takes a few attempts to learn just how to do it, but I take a page from Bf3 and start shooting mechs -- from the cranes. Not necessary to watch other than to give you ideas, as it's more 'learning' and 'figuring out' rather than actually fighting. (Recorded before we had a Testing Grounds).

The one above is better for showing how/if you can get to certain high vantagepoints.

All below are fairly well done.
This one involves rooftop sniping in River City from the former clocktower/capital building.

Second highest point in Frozen City; now the highest point accessible.

Crane sniping River City: Note this is still before ballistic HSR (lag compensation), so it'd fire nearly 0.5 or 0.6 seconds after I press the button. Makes sniping kinda difficult compared to now.

MWO history: first time a Spider has ever killed a Raven -- on youtube -- with two things working against the Spider. 1) 1-second Delayed Convergence. 2) No ballistic HSR (lag compensation), firing occurs 0.5 seconds or longer AFTER clicking the trigger.

And thats what I've found myself doing with the AC5 and MED laser if it'll reach...

If I'm patient enough to follow my own game plan.... I will sit back and let the big boys get tangled up in a scuffle, and I'll contribute with Laser and AC 5 fire, disabling their armor and components while they're distracted, and if I'm close enough I'll light up the MGs and help them with their weight loss plan.... I'll watch the pounds fall off...

Look at you, learning from your mistakes. You should be on a poster or something

Good luck. The path of the light pilot is not an easy one, but it is rewarding.

I try. Other than a couple days ago, I hadn't played since M-W 2.
I've always been a fan of the maneuverability of the smaller mechs vs the lumbering, often clumsy larger mechs.

I'm comfortable with my mech load out, I may tweak a bit here and there, but I think its capable of doing good damage, since I've gone operational with my mech, I'm averaging a kill a map, if not 3-400s in damage.

My biggest enemy is myself, having to not bite down on bait to lure me out and expose myself.

Welcome to the game! You haven't played in awhile if you haven't been around since MW2.

A lot is different in comparison to that game.

And you seem to have a good grasp of how to pilot a light. Be the one baiting. Don't be the one baited.

Also this is relevant:
