Not sure if it's already been suggested but if there are ever going to be tonnage limits in matchmaker games along with respawn, combine to two. For instance, each side has a limit of 1200-2000 tons (for 12 mechs), and any unused tonnage not allocated to the original is used for optional respawn at death, until all tonnage is used.
This keeps it at least somewhat balanced while also not forcing players to pilot a mech they don't like. Perhaps also a forced downtime between respawn depending on mech tonnage or something like that, to stop one player from being suicidal and using all the respawns, as well as a reward (cbill and xp) penalty for each 'death' in combat.

Oh yeah been suggested in several ways before. Heres Hopin'!
Last I heard is that some sort of drop weight mechanic will come in making you select from a limited subset of your Mech stable(+ trials) that you selected before looking for missions to play. If it works at all as advertised should give at least some reason to play away from the current meta.

It should be a seperate game mode.
