No it is not. This is just a excuse to get it removed.

I dont want it removed. I want it toggleable.

Frankly the crud actually hurts my eyes. I wouldn't drive a car like that. I wouldn't watch tv on something like that. And trying to play for more than a few matches actually hurts

it depends..if there will be some another addition to the glass, which will obscure vision in different situation..I think toggling is out of option for balance sake..however..I am all for introducing some replay system where we can record are matches without glass effect etc.

My 2 cents.

Didn't read the news. Started playing... kept thinking something was wrong with my screen. Game looks dingy now... no that's a spec or smudge on my screen.. no didn't wipe off. What? Its in the game?

Then someone commented about it and I understood what happened.

I'm sure lots of hard work and love went into it. But... I want to see the game not a dirty windshield. Can we at least tick off an item in the options so that it goes back to normal? Would be appreciated. We already have mech frames reducing the view, badly placed screens blocking some windows, etc. Now we have filmy, grumy, smudged, dingy dirt blocking even more of our view of the field. : /

Why? People already play on low to turn off trees to gain an advantage over people playing on high. People already use 3PV to gain an advantage over people playing 1st person only. So what difference would allowing cockpit glass to be toggled on/off make? The precedent of allowing players to alter graphics/view settings to gain an advantage has already been set...

3PV is not advantage ..at least not yet...

not sure about trees..maybe solution is to not allowing disabling trees?

If it is toggleable it might as well be removed. Like someone said, people already play it on low just for a edge.

@RagerBlade. Low spec advantage is then reflected in higher ELO so the whole tweaking for winning is pointless. A toggle for pure game enjoyment is still a valid reason.

Nausea. Before the patch, I could play all night. Now I can't play a match without needing to walk away from the screen.

To answer the obvious trolling retort, yes, my video card drivers are up to date.

^^^
This. I'm very prone to motion sickness in games like Gears, and was very happy to find (and spend money on) a game that I enjoyed... and which didn't make me run for the Dramamine. The not-quite-right motion of the {Scrap} on the glass is rapidly ruining that for me.

Maybe it will get better, but wow, I hate having something like this so significantly degrade my enjoyment of the game.

And with that statement you lose all credibility and show your complete ignorance of this game at the high skill end.

FYI: 3PV provides a nifty advantage in safely being able to see over ridges without exposing yourself.

Not everyone chooses to use it, it's an option.

As far as turning off trees and such, it's not done to just 'get an advantage', limited as that also is, but to scale down the video processing necessary to play the game.

Guess what cockpit glass does? Yes, that's right, adds more unimportant {Scrap} for your video card to have to contend with. Being able to turn off stuff unnecessary for game play, for play on low end/older PCs is essential to keeping the potential audience of this game as broad as possible.

So yes on toggle.

If you like it, if you feel you need to be "challenged" it shouldn't matter to you if your opponent is using it or not. You're challenging yourself to do well in spite of additional handicaps, and forcing everyone to have to deal with it who may or may not have the necessary computing power to handle it, is asinine.

I don't get the "immersion" thing. Like somebody forgot the technologies back from the good old times, where de-glaring coatings on glass and vibration anti-dusting systems were actively in use. When was that... let me think... 2010... now it's 3050... Hm...

Maybe we'll get at least frikkin' mechanical windshield wipers from the 1920s? Probably as a to-buy-with-mc-only cockpit item and a new "weapon group" for it.

The timeline split in 1984.

for 3PV advantage..not even the most competitive teams are using it.. so you are just fat plain wrong..

Of course..it's edge in some situations and these top teams are indeed using this little advantages especially when scouting..however most of the time..these teams just sit in their cockpit view for few different reasons..

credibility my ***...

processing power and balancing with spec etc.. you know..we just could remove textures..because..you know..less things to process..what about particles? ditch them too right? oh..and weather effects..some people playing on amiga can't play the game when is raining in map.. why we can't scale mechs back to 25 polygons like in mechwarrior 2 right??

man..that glass shader is soo simple.. I am making these shaders every ******** day.. these things hardly need any real processing power..any even mobile graphics card few years old is handling these shaders with ease.. so dont use this stupid excuse..

If you don't like it..that fair enough..tell why but don't try to be smart*** and argue with stupid arguments like "my graphics card will probably blow up because of glass effect"..

This cockpit glass effect is really annoying. It makes it impossible to see in some areas where it didn't use to be a problem (caves and tunnels are the worst offenders).

I could understand damage effects on glass as your head takes damage, but just having a dirty viewport at the start of a game doesn't make sense.

I need to toggle film grain and cockpit glass off. I remember when the film grain remover worked. The game was *gorgeous*. I actually turned my visual effects down today because it literally doesn't matter, now stuff like particle effects, smoke and better image resolution is just yet more fuzzy fog to see through.

It makes MW:O the only game I own that I play without maxxed visuals. Not because the visuals are not potentially great but because additional effects have been added to obscure them. It's just one of those bad design decisions that makes me faceplam about MW:O. Why? It's just so.... gratuitous. Both problems. It's not like a lack of film grain or not having grubby windows on your mech is a huge advantage, it's that having them detracts from the visual quality of the game. Both of these issues add jagged pixelated edges to lines that were otherwise....

bah. Anyway. Please let me toggle them off. I get that some people like the effect of things muddying up some otherwise pretty spectacular visuals but for those of us who enjoy the game looking pretty why can't we turn them off?

River City Night. Frozen City blizzards. Various fogs, mists, and dust clouds. Film grain. Now cockpit glass. Why am I going to spend money on paint and camo if no one can see them?

I am pretty sure one day they will make map with nice weather with rainbows and butterflies where you can showcase your camo to your opponents :)

Either remove it, or let me turn it off. It doesn't add anything to a game that relies heavily on being able to see and aquire targets.
