Using Streaks and leaving the LB in the -D is always a good bet for going after Lights. Just make sure you spread your damage as effectively as possible - the Centurion is still durable with an XL engine, but it's not a patch on the sheer zombie ability of a CN9 with a standard engine.
You definitely want to get your Centurions into the Elite tier, though. They go from 'good' to 'brutal'.

Then again, your other option is the YLW, which doesn't have the missiles for a good zombie setup, which goes against the other thing that people generally want from a Centurion.
I personally love my YLW, but it definitely suffers from "shoot my arm please" syndrome.

The D I run with 2 ML and 2 AC2s; the AL I run with 2 ERLL, 2 ML and a smattering of SRMs (whatever fits).

Cent Cent 9A's advantage over the AL is another missile port, so it can run 3x SRM6 2x ML and axe the arm armor entirely. You can optionally run 4x SRM4 2x MPL, too. It's outdated by the Shadow Hawk but still a durable pugging build.
The Cent 9D's advantage is to mount huge XL engines, allowing it to keep up with Jenners. It's actually a pretty neat 'mech that sees some league niche stuff, because it's far faster than even the fastest Shadow Hawk or Griffin. The only other 50+ ton medium that rivals it for speed is the (IMO superior) Treb 3C.

If you run the D without a huge engine in it you're totally negating why the Cent 9D is special. You should probably avoid ballistics entirely and stick to energy + missile on the chest so you can ferro+endo+XL.
It's a 50 ton scout 'mech, pretty much.

Way too much ammo in the legs and full armor on the arms is unnecessary for this build to really be effective.. at least, in comparison to a large engine. Thus I present:
Cent 9A Improved
Your same basic build but re-arranged for a large engine upgrade at the expense of axing the dud arms. Hope it helps. It's also CASE'd to make it even more of a zombie.

run an xl370 engine 2 srm6 2 medium lasers and it is my favorite mech of all time.
Yen lo wang is a real good mech too but you have to work to protect the right arm. I know some teams that use squads of Wang's in 12 man drops and win a lot with them. Wang is the most meta compliant centurion and still pretty tough even with an xl.
All that said, the CN9-A is ridiculously tough with a standard engine. I've seen a lot of single digit life levels while still getting kills.
Th AL is typically the cent liked best by people who don't like cents. Like hunchback pilots.

I ditched the 2ML's and haven't looked back yet.
the THREE artSRM6's do quite well.
