I'm now enjoying MWO in stereoscopic 3D since March 2013 and it's a blast! :D

Every stereoscopic 3D enthusiast will tell you: once you start paying in 3D, you cannot go back to 2D. MWO is a perfect example where depth is more than welcome.

With today's patch 1.3.307 (July 29th) 3D is now officially supported!

- Damage Glow does not yet work in 3D.

Let me know if you also enjoy MWO in stereoscopic 3D! B)

---

I've made a post back then but it got archived and no other reply can be added. Since it could also be hard to find, I'll post here again for those interested.

The engine is designed to support 3D, you may all have seen the grayed out option already. PGI plan to officially enable 3D in an upcoming patch soon after DX11 on March 4th, but thanks to a player named Endrick, it's possible to enjoy playing MWO with depth, NOW! :ph34r:

Find and edit C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\User.cfg (or create if does not exist)

r_stereomode = 1
r_stereodevice = 3
r_StereoScreenDist = 20.00

Back then I've played with different value for the last parameter but no noticeable change.

I have an nvidia card and a 42" 1080p smart LCD 3DTV I use for gaming (I sit 4-6ft away from it), and it is fun to play. I don't always use it though.

I had seen the coding for the user.cfg mid last year, so it was probably your old post that I saw it on.

If the people thought the No cockpit mod was a hack and should be restricted like it was because it gave an unfair advantage (which it didn't really) this qualifies in the same boat. Having depth perception when other people don't is unfair, as its not a supported PGI feature and should be locked out.

Depth perception is not an unfair advantage, especially when the game gives you a numerical range readout. This is like saying players with more buttons on their peripherals have an advantage.

They do, and don't even get me started on people who are rich and have triple screens. OMG imagine triple screen AND Stereo 3D!.

Hmm is that actually even feasible??

It's coming!

@russ_bullock: ...those that have the machine for it may switch to DX11. Upon initial release you can use MSAA but not TXAA or 3D vision expect those to..

@russ_bullock: to come online likely in the following patch.

Matthew Craig in latest technical update:

Quote

We originally planned to enable 3D in the March 18th patch but to allow us to focus on fixing performance issues we’re moving this to a subsequent patch to allow us time to fix a few remaining issues.

Sorry it's taking so long for them to support it. XP

I'm gonna guess December, if I'm being generous. Then again, it does depend on how far along they are in developing it, when they paused it. Right now, they have to deal with the Clan pack being released, and then troubleshoot what comes with that, and then worry about CW, and a few more balance/bug fixes, and after that, they /might/ have the time to put this in.

Heck, some people are guessing that CW won't be fully implemented until December (considering the pace things are going by, and prior history of how CW had been announced)

TL;DR:

Good news: It's coming

Bad news: We're not sure when, but hey, it's coming.

I only have to click the 3D button on my TV I use as a monitor. Needs an update from samsung to be op, but worth it once the settings are right :) Might check this out though.

does this only work with nvidia and the pc glasses or will it work with any 3d display like a 1080 samsung tv ?

I think it's possible to enable on AMD cards also, maybe with TriDef or something, I can't tell. And some 3D TV of course can do 2D to 3D conversion but not sure it's always optimal. I much prefer the built-in 3D Vision support.

yea those lines did nothing for me, I could select 3d in options but no effect.

the 2d to 3d conversion isn't true depth and doesn't realy look any good.

I got a 4gig radeon r9 290 I think it's 3d capable and it's hooked via hdmi to 60in samsung.

For me it was a simple online update for my TV and a BIOS change and upgrade for my motherboard, along with a few menu setting tweeks . All TVs are different so you need to find the best setups for your setup.

There is this post that could be useful for users of AMD video cards looking to play in 3D.

Sorry for the lack of update, the work for 3D Vision support is complete and went into test but got backlogged behind testing for Clans, now that Clans are released we'll aim to get it tested and out asap.

The main fixes focused around how the crosshair and other targeting elements were handled in 3D, looks good now just needs testing.

Can't wait to see if there is anything different from what I'm used to right now. From your quote, the crosshait should behave differently.

Also, do you remember I asked you to make sure Damage Glow will work with 3D Vision enabled? You said that it may not be the case when 3D Vision will launch but that you'll make sure devs take a look for next patch. Now that it was delayed so much, can you tell us if 3D Vision will finally launch with Damage Glow working?

Thank you Matthew for the update.
