For quite a while I did pretty well in my 1C with Gauss, 4xMLAS and SRM6. It was by far the most effective of my Dragons. However, that was way back, long before the gauss nerf.

With the current state of the game, I've found my 1N and 5N to be more effective due to their ability to boat ballistics (2xAC5 and 3xAC2, respectively).

I swapped out the gauss for an AC10 on my 1C, but I'm still not seeing much success with it. Here is what I'm running now: DRG-1C

I can probably refine my play style a little more (I think I might be a little too stationary. Need to re-embrace The Way of the Dragon!), but aside from that, any other good builds that work in the current state of the game? Preferably ones that still utilize the ballistic hardpoint...

Hi!

ATM I use this one:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7f8785e46f18529

The AC5 is to have something for long range support. The 4 MPLs are for armor melting and hunting down lights.
Thx to the speed you can outmaneauver slow mechs and rip their rear armor of within seconds. A few hits later, they are dead. You can easily kill almost any mech in 1v1 situations with this build.....except for fast victors / battlemasters.

I also used this build for a long time:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d1cfadd8103b83a

I freaked out many stalkers with this.....

You start the battle with the ERPPC. At 400 m you started to use the lbx10 + ERPPC. The ML's are just a backup weapon. Thx has no minimal damage range..so you can use it also in close combat. The LBx-10 worked great against lights.

You also could use this variant:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...5064dc597f43d0c

faster, but you will have trouble with lights.

I hope that somehow helped.

PS: your link is broken :D

EDIT: another hint: if possible, try to pair with a fast victor. A dragon and a victor together can mean serious trouble to other enemy groups.

I don't have a 1C, but a Fang is basically the same mech and on it I run an AC/10 and two LLs. Arm weapons are great for drive-bys, and the AC/10 range matches the LL's so you can fight from a comfortable distance. I can't say it's my best mech, but it's a fun challenge from time to time when I just want to screw around and grind C-Bills.

Weird. It was fine yesterday, but wouldn't work now for me either. My other mechs were fine. I rebuilt it and the link should be OK now.

Thanks for the builds. I'll check those out.

Try this one.

I fire the LLs at a target and follow up with an AC/10 shot just as the LL beam ends. With some practice you can do this on the run, at least on larger targets. Use your speed to control the engagement range, and be sure to recognize when you should disengage and run away. It's a good idea to pair up with another Heavy or Assault, anything that would appear a bigger threat to an enemy than you. Play it as a hit and run striker. On really hot maps, you can chain fire the LLs without altering your play style or rhythm.

Great idea! I modified it a little, since XL300 is the biggest thing I have:

DRG-1C

The SRM6's have been useless/wasted on my other build. If I'm in range to be using them, I'm usually too busy try to extend to really get any good shots off. A couple mediums will be useful, though.

PPC Snipe LRM meta:

DRG-1C

The two PPCs sit on top of the torso so anything you can peek over hills and see can be hit by those.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks!

After some experimenting, I've found that I'm pretty successful with this build: DRG-1C

The high mounted ER Lasers allow me to safely and effectively poke at people during the early parts of matches when people tend to play peek-a-boo a lot. The AC10 and ER's are my primary weapons when fighting breaks out, with the mediums being used when things get close (only used long enough for me to separate) or against lights.

I've been playing lots of CTF's and CPLT's lately, and this morning I finally remembered how to pilot a Dragon. Through 3 matches (2 on Tourlamine, 1 on Tera Therma), I stayed with my team during initial engagement, and then would swing around to the left and right flanks to engage any enemies on the outskirts of their formation. I'd do as much damage as I could until I attracted too much attention, then I'd pull back. Two matches with 300+ damage and one with 500+ damage. Multiple kills in each.
