Was suprised today when i rounded a corner and had an atlas with his back to me with damage, I fired 4 srm-6's into his back with nothing showing a hit on his paper doll. Fired another salvo of 4 srm-6's still no regestering. was able to fire a 3rd salvo before he turned around and started firing on me. just to say i didn't survive the battle. So firing 72 srm's into his back at a range of 20 meters I think they are still broken.

Chain fire or alpha?

theres this one guy who lives right next to the MWO servers in Canada

ask him if srm's work :3

I got 27 pingish, I get about a 75% hit rate. I think the assertions it is mostly the engine. I also get AC20 rounds getting devoured by the black hole sometimes more than others, sometimes the hits are pretty consistent.

75% hit rate of the ones I actually hit with, that is. I am judging that by the paper doll blinking and the crosshair turning red though. Which doesn't happen when the blackhole eats them. I can kinda get it happening on a light but when I get a rear shot on a highlander and I alpha 3 srm6s I want them to hit :C The refire rate is too slow to get another chance.

I saw that with the ac20 today , Had a jagermech start facehugging me, ( I friggin hate jagers , if i see one i will try to kill it at all costs) While I was in my Atlas on HPG, I fired 4 ac20 rounds into his left torso he did not die, my med blew his arms off though. I know he was lined up I could see his cockpit every time i fired and it was low and to my right should have blown him to bits by the 2 or 3rd shot.

This is the crux of the problem. Hit reg issues have broken the primary short range brawling weapon. See current meta as a direct result of this issue.

Should not matter. You shouldn't be forced to chainfire something to get performance out of it. Chainfire = time on target, which in the current meta means that your going to get cut down most of the time. SRMs are a great dump and run type weapon for mediums. Get in, get a couple hits, get out before you get eaten by the heavy/assault grinder.

And before anyone comes in with an anecdotal "well mine seem to be working fine and I post good damage with them" story. They dont work, they are broken, and you are the minority. You would be better off with a single AC5, or (shudder) even a pair of medium lasers.

Srm hit registartion is better yes
but that small/big percentage that doesn't register really hurts the medium mechs in two situations

Hit and Run (Alpha some dude and run - none register) - none of my srm 26's on my kintaro registered when i shot a dude ;) even if that doesn't always happen it ***** me up

Brawling ( Wasted ammo/Heat/Damage - gets worse if your fighting a mech heavier then you)

Even if SRM hit registration would be above 60% the srm's
those few that don't register really hurts :D

but of course with cryengine 3 its not that easy to fix

About an 80% hitrate, but when you hit that 20% fail you really feel it.

How did you arrive at that value/number Trout? Just curious is all.

I'd really like for people who complain about SRMs to post their location/connection speed/whether or not they play while bit torrent is running.

Location: WA, state
ping: 150 ish
FPS: 30ish I think

They register probably 70% of the time for me and I tried them again recently , and it was worse than it was a month ago for me. So ya please fix the darn hit registration issue.

I think its not only a SRM problem. If I fire ER-PPKs from the same torso/arm, there are hit registration problems. If I chain these weapons, then all hits are registered.
I have noticed it for ER-PPKs and SRMs so far. Maybe you have other experiences. Feel free to test on your own.

I tend to group-fire mine because I seem to get issues when chain-firing. I have an Orion VA that I occasionally run with 4 SRM6--if I go to the test range and chain-fire them, it's apparent that the first salvo (or two) register, but the follow-on salvos don't. It happens with ACs too--if you group AC2s and AC5/UAC5, you'll see that a lot of shots don't register at all.

Wait... you can arm-mount extended range Walther PPKs now?

The name is Herbivore, Dexter Herbivore. I'll have my SRMs shaking your cockpit, but not stirred.

We know. The issue is that SRMs (at least for me and many others) seem to be the least reliable for one reason or another.

----

Update:

I have seen my SRM accuracy stat increase marginally since I started running that 4J mentioned earlier. Only ~60 matches, and I cannot accurately say if player or game are the cause of the increase, but it has increased. As far as "seat of the pants" goes - SRMs do feel more reliable than a few months ago (last time I took them seriously), but there are still many flagrant cases of unregistered hits.

It's no hard number, just the general feeling that I get. Many games I'll get a dozen or so volleys in, and usually one or two fail to register. Kinda hard to keep a good record of it while playing, and I don't feel like recording and watching every game.

When they work they work well, so damage is fine, just wish hitreg was better all round. It's not just SRMs that are hurting, but they are the most notable ones.

This is my first post ever in the forum so I'll try to make it informative and sensable. BTW I'm a long time MW fan since Battle tech on DOS and every game since that contained mechs. I use 3 SRM 6 in my ATLAS config and dont use chain with them. I have never had a problem with the SRM's, I am able pick off arms and legs very fast with a couple massive volleys +some Lpulse or Duel Ultra5's, or an AC20. I do hear from friends that they are broken, and now after reading this entire post I think it might be a lag issue. I never have more than 100 ping, I run a 1300x700 res with 8GB DDR3 and GT9800, and a quad core 2.7 GHz. I run my graphic on low and take advantage a Extremely high frame rates, I find the SRM and PPC are severly enhanced by high frame rates, and almost useless at low frame rates. Anyways might want to try lowering your graphics and trying the SRM's.
