Has anybody ever imagined how awesome this game would be and how much further along we could be feature wise if they never would have promised Community Warfare?

If they had just taken the MOBA concept added the Mech sim and put in leagues and ladder boards?

And conceptually its a perfect fit in the Mechwarrior/Battletech Franchise. Solaris/Mercenary tournaments. I mean, its the perfect excuse for having a great PVP stompy robot gameplay without any semblence of story or meaning.... and they never would have had to shoot higher than that.

I think MechWarrior Online is a lesson in setting achievable goals and not shooting for the moon. If PGI would never have promised Community Warfare I think the community would be completely positive about this game.

I, for one, agree that PGI/IGP should not be saying they can make anything more than an arcade-style game. Anything more is misleading. Agree 110% with OP. Great post!

What makes you think the game would be in a better state if PGI had not promised community warfare??

It is not like they have been working on it.

The game would still be **** because PGI has no idea what they are doing. Seriously. Go look at the list of games they have worked on sometime. No big surprise. :)

90% people are still playing this game only because they wait and hope that CW eventually comes out. Without that hope this game has nothing to offer except for a PPC-pinpoint-jump-snipe meta thats going on for 2 years.

A simple match league completely misses the point of battle tech, and the problem with the delays is firmly at PGi's feet as they have to many fingers in to many pies, and not enough staff.

but even if they had picked this cheep wishy washy method it still wouldn't be here because UI2 not finnished

Tell me exactly how many are still playing and I'll tell you exactly how many equal 90%.

I think only 67% of that 90% are still playing, 22% just check the forums.

I was actually thinking of workarounds they could put in without too much effort and leave in the current interface....

What if instead of 'leagues' or seasons like other games use... they instead chose a succesion war every 6 months and concentrated on the two main adversaries of the given conflict.

It would look like this:

1.) Allow players to only associate with one of the two factions that are going to fight each other.
2.) Matchmaker only allows pure faction teams, so every match is xx VS yy and not xy VS yx
3.) use stat tracking and the 'challenge' interface that they have brought out in the past to track the results of battles... have a corresponding star map on the website (so you don't have to put one in-game)
4.) At the end of 6 months the side with the most victories and resources collected (actually matters to cap resources instead of deathball in conquest) is determined the 'winner'

Basically if they used the WEBSITE as a workaround for the issues involved in putting together community warfare they could put together a pretty reasonable territorial battle metagame.

Exactly. We dont' know, so saying 90% of players do ANYthing isn't going to be accurate. I sincerely doubt any of us has data on 90% of the player base regarding anything.

I judge based on people I know, from my unit, other units and people I meet in game that voice their opinion on the matter. About 90% of them do wait for CW and admit that without it this game will be nothing. Now I've talked to a lot of people, if its 90% among them then its probably same 90% among all players.

Regardless, I'd agree that CW might be too much for PGI, but I'll also insist that CW will make this game infinitely better.

Your stats were from an in depth study of every player, obviously!

I stop in to the Forums once every two weeks and check to see what the patch has accomplished. I might patch that one day but, mostly, I wait to see if there are any hot fixes. And I could care less about the CW feature. As a Clan-oriented player, the Clans will be a joke, MW4: Mercenaries will be more fun to play.

I do not think 90% "still playing" is accurate relative to the number of people I no longer see in my "friends" listing in the game launcher social "room". I would put, relative to what was present during the open beta, the number at about 60%, possibly lower.

The closest game to your concept was the MechCommander games. The first one was awesome and the second wasn't bad either. With MWO style designs I think a new MechCommander would be amazing!

will or could?

CW could make it better but it depends how/when/what PGI implements. They could royally bork it up too.

What I actually meant was '90% of people who are still playing' as in 90% of those 25% who still are playing. You for example won't qualify for 'still playing'.

Well, CW as in Community Warfare not as in a-joke-of-a-meta that PGI will probably come out with. One can hope, although I really don't know why I sometimes do, considering they failed to deliver on pretty much every promise they made.

I agree completely with op. I have played this game since early beta, and am a member of the Luna Wolves. I do feel this idea would have made for a better business model. PGI you would have an easier promoting every aspect of the game. Its already half implemented.
