So one thing that I would enjoy in this game is being able to set up my mech based of what map it is. Your being dropped on a planet you would hope you pilot would know what the conditions are like before he started a mission and would be able to adjust his loadout accordingly. In mwo you could simulate this by being able to change mech loadout in the minute we usally get for the pregame lobby so on hot maps less energy more heatsinks could be loaded and in cold less heatsinks more weapons. This way we could have more specialized loadouts instead of just having general ones. This way the game would always keep you thinking and trying different loadouts for different maps.

Modifying your mech is a little too time-intensive to try to cram in while waiting for the drop, especially when you consider people who swap engines across mechs.
What the devs have said is they would like you to be able to change your selected mech after the map has been chosen and/or a map vote function. Hopefully we will get an option to allow us to tailor our mech to the environment, but until then I will build for all possible environments.

they could put like 3 loadouts on a chassis you set up before hand that you could select from could solve the time problem

This is actually a good idea for Omnimechs.
Omnimechs can only swap pods and weapons around as the rest of the chassis is static. This gives Omnimechs the advantage of being flexible to the map where Battlemechs can be only fielded as they were brought from the mechlab to the dropship.

The recent info I read suggests that you'll be able to select several 'Mechs to "take with you" on the drop (like we can have four pre-chosen right now). Once the map is voted on and chosen, you'll be able to select one of the 'Mechs you brought. So, all you have to do is make sure you have several different 'Mechs available with setups for different temps.

This is exactly what I was thinking after reading your topic.
With UI2.0, PGI is hoping to get a way for players to save loadouts, and, provided you have all the funds/equipment available, you can switch to these premade loadouts while in the ready screen.
I’m hoping this is how it will work…
Right click on your mech, it brings up a list of options (if there happens to be more than one), amongst them is the Loadout button option: [LOADOUT >] Clicking this button expands the list:
[LOADOUT V]
- SNIPER <
- HEAT EFF
- BRAWL (40,000 CB)
I want to switch to my brawling loadout, but I don’t have enough items in my inventory, and need to buy something (maybe for ammo, or consumable) for 40,000cb.
I click on brawl, spend the 40,000cb, it loads onto my mech automatically, and I can click the Ready button.
