How about this for Jacked Up.
2PPCs (chainfire)
4 Medium Lasers (chainfire)
no jumping.
---
another game got me 5 kills 6 assists and 744 damage (got me the "Johnny Five" Achievement with it too)
2 AC2s with 5 tons of ammo
4 medium lasers
As long as I had AC2 ammo I was using my Medium Lasers on Chainfire for "suppression fire"
Once the ammo was gone, I turned back to Group fire and did "hit and run" tactics
no jumpjets whatsoever.
---
The blackjack is a very mobile suppression mech, as long as you can keep out of range and touch enemies with long rage weapons, the relatively thin chassis is great for keeping good cover.
What I dont like is I'm focused on most of the time due to being a medium, and being alone as larger mechs whimper and hide (on both sides mind you) as I lay DAKKA into the countryside.

As for a good 'wingman for an assault' build for a Blackjack, I've had good success following assaults with this BJ-1 build. It's slow but fast enough to shadow an assault mech, and the pair of UAC5s can unload a good amount of damage quickly. When one or both UAC5s jam you've still got the medium lasers and your assault mech partner to back you up. Not confirmed as far as I know, but I would also be intrigued by a hero Blackjack mech based off the BJ-2 (which has two ER Large Lasers in the arm and four SSRM2s in the torso).
wow i think that just might be my next mech!

IMO, blackjacks must use max engines or they are worthless because of how squishy they are. Yea XLs are a risk but somehow I don't seem to die from that as much as I would expect, plus you need the firepower.
BJ-1: Gauss rifle with three tons of ammo and three medium lasers with 2 jj.
BJ-3: Tried a bunch of different ones but currently its 2 PPCs and 2 Med pulse lasers
BJ-1x: used to use 3 large lasers but now use 2 large pulses and two mediums. 116kph is a wonderful speed to go at.

@Scrotacus: They are not worthless. I held the radio tower pass on Alpine in my stock engine BJ-3 and had no expectation of surviving, but I did.
That's a lot of money to shell out for an 235XL. What other mechs can use such a niche engine? Not many. Maybe when I buy the Arrow I can rebuild my Blackjacks. 71 kph is not that bad if you stay with the main group.

I love my Blackjacks. They are one of the only mechs I use that have viable options and effective builds for every chassis.
BJ-1X. Slap 8x SPL on it, and an XL 295 and you've got a zippy leg and rear torso shredding machine. Hurts lights badly, nice and fast, and great heat management. No ghost heat on SPLs!
BJ-3. Slap two PPCs and three MLs on it and you've got a nice, decently fast sniper with medium range support from the three MLs. Heat efficient, and jump jets make up for the speed you won't get with the 1X. I think I use an XL 235 on this one.
BJ-1DC Throw two UAC5's on there and you have yourself a nice dakka support mech
BJ-A 6 MG's. 2 LPLs and 1 center ML and you've got a medium/close range crit shredder. Rips apart legs like no one's business.

@Spherois: Yea I guess I spoke a little too matter of factly. Here I'll correct it "Blackjacks are worthless for Scrotacus 42 unless using max engines, and in general the hit and run style is better when you go as fast as the chassis will allow". I have piloted blackjacks a lot though, and honestly a slow blackjack I usually laugh at and feel bad for because it can never be a Jager so don't try to turn it into one. Even with a 235 its still a bit too slow honestly. They need to make the engine caps on all the BJs 295.
You can use the xl-235 in a spider or a commando. The 295 can be used in all sorts of stuff if you buy It for he 1x, which yo should, as its speed is its defining characteristic.
