I still hate this map, and it has nothing to do with the central volcano. This map is the epitome of everything that is wrong with MWO: heat, climbing nerf, poor visuals/visibility, too large a map even for 12v12, and on, and on, and on . . . .

In my opinion, Terra Therma is without a doubt the worst map PGI has ever made. Just absolute garbage.

River City/RCN isn't a great map either, but at least you can brawl a bit on it.

I've had tons of fun on that map.

The requirement for this is that people don't hill hump the crater entrance. You CAN go crater in this map but, if you do, you must commit to it and take command of it. Otherwise avoid it and flank.

IMO, the maps aren't large enough. You really limit the value of scouting on maps that are easy to traverse for the heavy hitters.

Nah, it's a neat map. Keep it.

I hate Alpine worse, but even that map can stay. We need variety even if some map designs are mehh. If anything, tweak maps, don't eliminate them.

You don't even have to design a mech around this map, just learn some fire control and not to jam the fire button every time your weapon recycles. Learn to move into and out of cover in time with your heat.

Terra Therma is great. It's very creative, and it adds variety to the map list.

If you're having trouble overheating, start paying attention to your heat.
If you keep rushing the center and dying, start thinking about alternatives.

Stop complaining when wins aren't handed to you on a silver platter, and try some problem-solving. It makes the game so much more enjoyable!

I'd love to; but seriously - the map isn't that well laid out. Flanking is an option; at least there are enough ways to go; but even in fast mechs this takes forever; and relying on a PUG-team to leave a bottleneck and try something else is a disappointing experience 90% of the time. This map might be fun for 12-teams; but even for groups of 4 it's less then ideal. Oh, the excessive heat is just annoying; but not a core problem

Mordor is the new Caustic.

It has the suicide center that lures dumb players in like a trap and the heat load to make shutdowns happen with ease.

On the other hand, if you stay out of the center, you do pretty darn good. And that's the key to Terra Therma. Skip the center. You go after the other points in Conquest, you can bottle up anyone dumb enough to hold the center all day and cap in Assault, and Skirmish generally has enough stragglers you can mash going in patrol circuits that by the time the other side realizes you didn't ever bother with center, they're down and losing and have to come out to play, anyway.

People complained about Caustic too, and the smart ones learned the map instead.

No.

Learn to adapt, or continue to fail.

It really is that easy, and these forums, while often filled with vitriol (usually from players that refuse to deviate from "this is what I want to do and how I want to do it, if I can`t the game /map /mech sucks"), are chock full of information on how. Usually in the same threads where people are whining about their own incapacity to understand how to do it. :P

Brilliant post sir

I don't know why the immediate assumption is that hating the map has something to do with not doing well in it. After roughly 300 matches on it, I have a 1.32 W/L rating for it, which makes it the 4th best map for me, statwise. I also have gotten several 6+ kill matches in it (as in, more often than on other maps), likely because of the choke points, difficult terrain and people overheating. I have had some very memorable, good matches there.

I still hate the map more than anything in the game, and curse everytime I get put on it.

The map is literally a story about walking to Mordor. A major portion of the matches involve just walking around without any sign of enemies, just waiting for the point in time when some strategy and tactics would have a meaning. The map is vast, and yet the fighting always happens in a handful of spots, providing no variety or excuse for the long walks. All sides of the volcano are so similar I still have a hard time recognizing on which side of the volcano I am, and occasionally try to climb the wrong places, wasting even more time walking around.

It's hard to see stuff, the heat vision mode is useless on one of the few maps it could be worthwhile. Makes me sad that if I was a tryhard, the best vision mode would be to switch gamma to very high, with which seeing stuff is easy but the map looks awful.

I'm sad it's such a boring and unsatisfyingly time consuming map to play, because the theme is nice, and it looks ok with intended settings. The new conquest points on Alpine made that map much more entertaining IMO, unfortunately I can't think of a similar fix that would make Mordor entertaining.

Maybe, when the map voting comes, seeing this map once every 100 matches will make it feel fresh. No high hopes though.

I like Tera Therma, I enjoy drops there, I enjoy the tactical movement, I enjoy the way a light wolfpack can out maneuver larger prey. It doesn't have an easy mode and it punishes PPC use, but that too is part of the fun. In my book all maps should be on this scale.

It should be renamed Terrible Therma. It needs major reworking. Movement around the map is awful. Way too many areas to climb. It lacks fluidity. Brawling on it is terrible. Knife fighting with lights is terrible. It is a slow and ponderous map which one would think it is a benefit to lights. However it is not. Tactics and strategy are great but when you are walking around for several minutes without enemy contact tactics and strategy get thrown out the window. Everyone runs to the middle to bring the map to a merciful and quick end.

I've never understood why people hated this map so much. But then, I've always run at least semi-fast and low-heat builds. Tonight, on a lark, I decided to skill out the 'phract. I've never run anything over 65 tons; I just wanted to try something new. So I bought my first. Building it was fun! So liberating to have tonnage to play around with!

Then I took it out to test on Terra Therma... sweet Jesus but that thing's a pig. SLLLOOOWWW. This game is not meant to be played at 60kph. And heat? Forget it. All those awesome guns just melt on this map. I spent far more time trudging along and shutting down than I did shooting the dummies.

Granted, the Testing Grounds don't take into account your skills, but this is not the map for many big-guns on a slow mech. So I see why people hate this map. The solution, rather than get rid of a map that others may enjoy, is to build faster and cooler.

Terra Therma is my least favourite map. I really dislike playing it. And I do not care that my win/loss ratio there is decent. I always see a couple disconnects there, so I guess I am not alone in that dislike.

No mattter if a voting solution or selections of preferred maps or whatever, something needs to be done to reduce the chance to get stuck into that map. Preferably to a chance of 0% IMO.

I think it could be fixed by adding a few open areas, get rid of a few mountains on one side for example and make a flat open area. The main problem is how it is all the same.

I used to like the map before the spawn change now it's a dumb map and heat has nothing to do with it.

Also

Therma is my second highest played map and has 2 HOURS MORE than the highest map played.

Tourmaline 237 match 21h17m

Therma 231 match 22h10m

So im right to ***** "not again..." when i roll therma but i like that it has different game mechanic and i liek the setting, it just need to roll a lot less.

I have no issues with the map, whether I am in an Atlas or a Jenner, I just adapt the best I can. Toggle off some weapons or select chain fire. Also I find a few other mechs to move with. THe Atlas might be slow but when the enemy Spiderand Firestarter combo comes in for what they think is an easy kill and suddenly find out that there are three Cents with me and all I am doing is providing ECM, then the fun begins. The Atlas realy doesn't have anything to do until the Heavies/Assaults show up to join the party.

be flexible when you play and you will have a lot more fun on ALL maps. Keep the map, Expand the map, Attach it to Caustic Valley and make the time limit 25 minutes. Love that junk.
