Clans got them in 2826
IS got them in 3058
Become a clanner and get them when clans invade or wait 7-8 years or so IRL for the timeline to catch up.

Interestingly enough, going over some of my recordings from playing last week I noticed some interesting things...
As you may or may not know - I am a fan of the LRM5 unit - 2 of them they weigh less than 1 LRM10 so one of the first things I did when I was working through the Centurion chassis was to swap the 10 for 2 5s.... which is somewhat off topic but... getting back on topic...
It is generally accepted that 1 LRM5 salvo cannot get through AMS (esp by people such as Victor, who suggest using an LRM20 salvo to blow through the AMS so your LRM5 can get through

Chain firing the 4 LRM5 on my new Jager.... and some from each wave went through a Jester's dual-AMS.

Might have been the angle of the engagement or something else... but I thought it was interesting.
(now if only I can figure out why the typing cursor keeps jumping around whilst I try to type - very irritating.)

Thanks for that Kon - brains not working well today for stuff like that. >.<
Typos abound!

You get that problem too? So it's not just me. It seems to happen every time I pause between sentences.

I also think that chainfiring allows more from the subsequent volleys through - the AMS is focused on that first volley to the very end, so it doesn't start shooting the second volley until it's much closer.

An LRM Raven 3-L is wise to have an LRM 10 or 20 in one torso, and an LRM-5 launcher in the other hand. Whether you fire 100 missiles or just 5 one at a time, the AMS fires at the same rate. By the time you get through 40 missiles with an LRM-5 single tube launcher, the enemy AMS is completely drained. LRM-20 'em to DEATH!

I have them set to two groups - one for chainfire the other for group just for that

- I had seen a catapult -started chainfiring at it (because so few Jesters run AMS let alone the other 'pults) then saw the AMS go off - which is why I had not realized how much of my vollys got through until re-watching the video.
Edit: however, Koniving I can also finally report on the effectiveness of Dual-AMS vs Streaks for that Locust...
I got chased by an Oxide.
It either ate ALL of them (esp when he chainfired at me) or about half when he group fired at me (which spread the damage a lot as well... obviously)
I chewed his mech to pieces - and had not even dropped to orange level armor anywhere when he fell.
Probably helped that he seemed to have trouble maintaining his lock - so how effective it really is may be up for debate.

Sure, it will chew up some of the volley, or all of it on a small volley... But chances are, you'll be around cover somewhere... and if you're not, you're going to be in trouble anyways...
I've been debating about taking down my AMS. And using the extra tonnage offensively.

I have run out maybe 2-3 times - usually when a missile boat sees the AMS firing they find another target,Koniving has even been having luck (he says) not putting any ammo in for it, and just using it as a half ton scare.
Edit: as for taking it out completely... I am of two minds, some of my mechs use it, period. others... I have never even put an AMS on them.
Really depends on how frequently you think it would block damage, I would think.

I'm the same way my Shawk has it, and my spider for instance doesn't....

My ECM commando has it especially. That way even if I'm countered, I'm protected against some missiles too. Why have one layer of protection when you can have two?

I just haven't played the poor little man since I started mounting AMS on things.
