Not played for about 4 months. Decided to give it a go today.
I was met with a huge patch which was to be expected.
After this, I played a game which was slow, laggy, weapons that didnt seem to do much damage, mechs that rubberbanded around the map and sounds that sounded like i was playing with a bucket on my head.
This nearly equals bf4 on the spectrum of failed game updates.

Run the repair tool. Had a similar issue when doing months of patches all at once

you need to do a clean install after a point in time.

^^ Yep, as soon as I get even the slightest issue with the installation (about 1x every 6 months), I just purge the old and put a fresh one on. It only takes an hour with a halfway decent connection (I only have 16 MBpS myself)

This. MWO gets crotchety after enough patches and needs to be wiped and reinstalled to get proper performance.

That will improve some things, but yes, the game is broken in some key parts.
Post what improves and what doesn't after you run the tool, I am curious.

About the sounds...maybe he dropped his first map on HPG. That would confuse me after months of being away.

I wouldn't bother until tomorrow unless you're just really hankering. Tomorrow is going to be an entirely new system.
