its not about if the game was the best you ever had or even if you won or lost

its about being a good sportsman
at the end of every sporting match here is Australia, both teams will shake each others hands and commend each other on their efforts , even if you hate the other teams guts or just one guy you still shake their hand

GG or good game, is the summary of this type of action
i cannot shake your hand after every match, but i can say thank you for showing up and being my opponent
for with out you the opponent there would be no game for me to play

it has nothing to do with how the game plays out either
i have been on as many stompped teams as anyone else
but even some of those were amazing games, my team getting stomped was either putting up one hell of a defense against a massive onslaught or we made a crazy banzai charge into the enemy when they did not expect it
you know the games im talking about, where even tho it was you who got stomped 12-0 it was an amazing game

but GG is not just for amazing games
when you say GG on a defeat, you say "i have lost, i acknowledge my defeat and your superior skill or tactics this day, next we meet you shall be tested"
on a victory GG says "i have attained glory this day, tho it would not have been possible with out my opponent, honor to the fallen"

so you see , it is a respect thing
much in the same way o7 has been catching on
(the "o" is a head and the "7" is an arm, thus the salute emoticon was born)

sorry my friend but your points are not proven at all.

in game chat when they are an opposing team thier really isnt anything that can be considered "needed to be said"

so what becomes is simply a tool for trolls.

now if your saying that out of game chat when were all not in a competative state i would agree that thier is alot of positives that can come from it.

Of course now - by your own logic, that is all the forums, television, phone networks, or any other form of communication we have is used for (after all, what is the bulk of Email used for but spam?) - so they aught to be shut down except where absolutely necessary.

gg means good Game. I really ask myself how this could be seen as negative in any Way. I read the Examples, but there is no Way I could agree on them.

Maybe sometimes People read too much in a short Post. From my Experience that can be totally misleading.

Even if you win 12 - 0, It doesn't mean it wasn't a good game.

With no re-spawns, typically the first team to lose someone will lose. It's just a matter of numbers.

When its 12 v 11, you can have two mechs gang up on one. And it just folds from there. A game can still be good at 12 - 0.

GG, means Good Game. It's the most polite thing you CAN say! Would you rather it was NT? Nice Try? What would be the right thing to say?

He apparently meant that last one to be in team chat or lance. You ain't paranoid if they're really out to get you.

Keep in mind that we are aware that there are exceptions to our rules.
Mostly we just want those who believe that "GG" itself is offensive to keep the same thing in mind

Edit: It is more the people who want to remove the other teams ability to chat or the like that we are calling paranoid (or those who want to filter the term "GG" - as if that would totally remove the other peoples abilities to mock them)

Those of us that have debated the meaning of GG have all said it depends on the context, circumstance, or situation in which it was used. This whole idea of paranoia is ridiculous. We all know what GG stands for, that isn't the problem. None of you know exactly what may have been said before the match, how the match went and what was said before or after a "GG" was expressed.

My very first comment on this thread was that, as someone that was on a team that had just gotten their asses kicked I'd rather nothing be said by the winning team. But that goes both ways, I'd rather not say "GG" to a team we've just beaten down and risk it coming off the wrong way. Because yes, a beat down match and then posting just "GG" in TEXT mind you has a good possibility of coming off offensively. But not only that, I ask just why in the hell would one say good game when it really wasn't for the losing team...? Yeah, I can't imagine how one could take it wrong.

Now me, I don't chat much anyway, and if our team does get our asses kicked and it's pretty obvious it wasn't a good game for 80% of the players on the team, including me and someone on the other team posts "GG"... It's fine. And whether it's meant sincerely or as a bit of arrogance it doesn't bother me and unless I'm in a pissy mood I might comment back that it really wasn't, and that's it. 99% of the time I don't post anything because I don't want to be a **** either way. But come on, we were stomped, and getting my ass kicked isn't fun.

I'm just wondering IF all of you defending the use of "GG" after every game no matter what can understand where I/others are coming from? Like I said, I really don't care if you want to say it all the time and how you mean it. The thread is here and open for opinion.

This entire conversation is NO different than buying into any other stereotype. I'm sure there's a few less than "nice" players out there that DO use it in a derogatory manner. That doesn't mean you, myself, or anyone else should give in and give up using it as it is really intended in the form of being a good sport. When you do that you're doing nothing more than letting those types of people dictate to you the meaning and use of something like that and I, for one, absolutely and positively refuse to let people like that dictate ANY portion of my life.
