Just bought this sucker and I can't get a good tonnage amount with ferro. I always end up having to slap on an ams to fill the other 1.5 tons up with because all of my engines are some tons and a half (.5) (300, 320, 340) i have 268 armor on it so i guess i could take some off and use standard. any suggestions?

I use XL300s in both my X5 and 3M. With speed tweak that puts you at 133.7kph which is fast enough. Adding Endo+Ferro should leave you with plenty of weight for firepower and max armor.

This is my 3M: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6fb83b69d5284c4

Generally, you don't want to use ferro.

You are running endosteel, aren't you? If not, then you need to dump the ferro and put on endosteel.. Only run ferro if you have absolutely nothing you can do with the crit slots.

Given the mech's sparse hardpoints and the fact that he's going to put a minimum of a 300 engine in it, he more than has the crits for both.

ANyway, I know it's annoying to have an under-weight mech and all, you sit there thinking of how you could/should use the rest of the tonnage. Hell, my HGN-733C is 2 tons under-weight, but I can't get any benefit by changing the load out, so it stays that way.

I'm curious, what 733C build? I often have builds that are some fraction of a ton underweight (which kind of makes me twitchy) but 2 tons? That's a fair chunk of mass :)

THIS.

And it does quite well. Last time I took it out I got 6 kills and an assist, which is better than I've done with, well, anything. Though I have been thinking of swapping out the Large Lasers for ER versions.

Fair enough. I'd ditch a couple JJ's (JJ's after the first offer so little actual jumping height) and the Endosteel, and pack on another couple DHS for higher sustained DPS, but that's just me. Anyways, not the thread to discuss HGN builds, I was just curious :)

Not a bad idea, and definitely something I'll mull over. I just like having maxed jets because when the poop hits the fan it can save your hide (better heat dissipation can, too, though).

Back to the Cicada, with ferro, I drop armor off the arms. They don't help block my sides all that well, and they don't have anything critical in them.

We could be more helpful if we knew what you had on your Cicada now and what you wanted to put on it. You shouldn't have to drop the armor from your arms.

Can you post a smurfy link to your loadout?

Endo and Ferro is a good idea on most lights, and thats about it. A couple mediums benefit from it aswell.

With the Cicada, you've got more than enough room for an XL (300 or bigger), FF, and ES with heat sinks.

It's criminal to go in with 2 tons free, that's 2 tons wasted tonnage.

I'd do something like this as already mentioned:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c8c387fd7a2efbf

That extra ton of AC20 ammo could be useful, and those extra heat-sinks will keep you firing for longer.

The 1 JJ is ample really, for moving around, and for jump-jetting around in a brawl.

(not that I'd brawl with an XL engine'd Highlander though, just keeping the flavour of you're original build!)

I run both on a K2 with 315XL, 2xLL, 2xAC5 (4 tons of ammo), and... 12 doubles, I think.

Every now and again you find a big mech build that just works with it.
