Don't listen to this Dontor guy. He's the one who carries hard in a light mech. I just follow him around and try to steal his kills. Sometimes, the strat actually works.

Yeah, unless its his GaussyaMuromets, its like a walking bunker with an AC45 @ 2000 m/s! :P

They seem to tank damage even better than spiders in some cases. Even peppering them with streaks does very little some times. Even if they are quite large my lasers or other guns just doesn't deal any note-worthy damage it seems.

Could just be bad luck and poor hit registration on my part tho. =/

I'm hoping this will change slightly once we get the other Firestarters and can push through Elite and 2x Basics, but so far my impression is that Firestarters are great except for their leg hitboxes, which might be a tad too generous.

Well, Wispsy just said in another thread that the FS9-E is better than the Jenner F. He would know.

There you have it, folks.

sounds like firestarter vs jenner to me
firestarter just outclasses the commando/spider/locust/raven in terms of fire power paired with maneuverability i guess

excluding the dual streak jenner/com 2d/raven 3l
it does have its drawbacks in a fight as said in thread

but point blank brawl vs another jenner id say firestarter due to its arm movement paired with a skinny body and jumpjets
ones easier to ct core and the others easier to leg
it can't hillpop/ its arm are all its powa hardpoints etc.

I've now maxed basics i'm waiting till tuesday to get 2 other variants but already i'm getting 3-4 kill games in my ember, 2 mlas 2 flamer and 4 machine guns do more than you'd think.

Fully elited this will easily be a match for my sarah's mech which is my most effective light.

And don't whine about their hitboxes they are really easy to leg they are certainly not as bad as a spider.

Ember truly is a beast, I don't even get legged often. I guess its just a playstyle, I don't circle the enemy for example, I try to stay behind them endlessly instead, while continually moving.

Lights are easily legged when you can predict the movement. "Water can flow or it can crash, be water my friend!"

The stock armor values are way too low.

I bought an A model as I have enough Pilot XP to Master the Ember... K/D ratio a measily 1.7.

I went into battle with the A and had 11 wins and 9 losses, 14 kills and 18 deaths. I was getting legging like crazy and finally checked my load out only to discover both legs had 0 armor.

Beware light pilots. And for the rest, this incredibly insane stock build armor level is probably why you are legging Firestarters so easily.

As for who will rule the roost? Most Jenners run from the Ember. And we haven't even seen it generally at the Elite or Master level yet.

I checked the stock loadouts and they come with 14-16 armor in the legs, not 0, although half would feel like 0.

Either way, this is for sure a top light mech.

I have the Ember, H, and S mastered with the extra module slot. The 'Mech comes into it's own once you have 2x unlocked. I mean, I can't even deal half the damage with a Jenner as I can with a Firestarter.

The legs are the weak point, but not nearly as bad as the Raven imo. Always try to keep your highest armored leg towards incoming fire and it tends to work out alright.

Figured... but totally shocked when I found them at 0.

Guess it was my expert manipulation of the new UI... :(

Don't you love it, sometimes when the 4xMGs firing sounds gets looped wacky and it sounds like a Mini gun instead.

Was only home for the weekend so I picked up the FS9-H. After a few tests I found I performed best with this build http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d7898b6a4d934b1 Yes I know they're smalls, but with the main weapon being the Ultra, and when you meet a light or the brawl kicks in and you're running circles round an Atlas, the smalls are noticeably more efficient. I'm not bragging or saying it's unusual, but I received some nice compliments on my build and my success in a couple matches; it's just generally nice to know you're doing something right.

The Ultra definitely scares off other lights once you land a few hits on their CT, although I found streaks to be an issue, as those arms just seemed to melt off, so the double AMS variant I feel will be very helpful, especially for support.

I never tried using an AC/5, but I found I needed the extra kick from the Ultra even if there's a risk. This is something I plan to test when I next get a chance to play: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...1091676c3a86494

Not worth the money honestly. It's slower and easier to hit, though does pack decent punch thats for sure. I'd rather take my spider out than the firestarter and yes I bought the fire starter and wish I didn't.....hell I wish I never spent any money on the mechs in this game, but I was a sucker for trying new stuff in the game when I played it more regularly.

I tend to have issues looking up/down. The FS have only 16° while all other mechs are 20° or higher in pitch (besides Cat/Atlas with 15° each).
On tall mechs like Atlas and BM, you need to stay further away which will lead to beeing an easier target for them.
Or you need to only shoot legs because you are so small

Until elite/master the feeling of the Ember for me is not very positive. I might have been playing jenners too much :)

Yes, this is very exciting, I am ready to see what this thing can do fully unlocked.

OTOH, I might bring out the Oxide for a little bit of c-bill farming while everyone is grinding them, I need the c-bills for my own FSE grind :)
