Recently the Yen Lo and the X-5 were on sale for 40% off. So why start off with 24 hour sales on mechs recently on sale? Why not Golden Boy or another mech that has never been on sale?

Not getting how this strategy works.

Not enough people buying X-5 and Wang? Steeper discounts is the key.

How will offering discounts on others Heros make people buy more X-5s and Wangs?

The idea is actually for the "impulse buy". If you knew there was a weekend sale, you'll probably only get the regular 30% off price of the mech and you have a whole weekend to mull it over.

Since you now know that a sale is available every 24 hours, you now have to decide whether you have an itchy trigger finger... unfortunately a 50% sale of the Pretty Baby won't go well.

If they do a 50% sale per day they will never sell a hero at regular price again... Just wait a month and the hero you want will be 1/2 off at some point. Maybe they are banking on getting more sales so as to counteract the loss(I use that term loosely considering it's virtual stomp mechs we're talking about here).

As for why do a sale on mechs on sale recently??? I'm sure quite a few people we're on the fence about the mechs at 30% off... putting them at 50% off for one day just after the 30% sale gets those who didn't pull the trigger then to do so now, thus generating more sales relatively easy.

As death said it's pure impulse buy... if pgi woulda put the clan packs up for just one day at 50% off they would have generated a lot more sales... but those who already bought them would be up in arms.

Just curious where your degree in market analysis is from?

Because you speak as one who knows....yet...........

(not hating, just I hear this a lot, but never see anything to actually back it up, whereas I know IGP uses market analysts. Not in love with the prices either, but they seem to work. And selling twice as much at half the price means you net.... zero extra gain.)

Because no one will buy Golden Boy, if someone does (I do) that person will regret that decision for rest of his MWO career.
That is the only P2L hero mech there really is. un-nerf engine limit.. it will be at same level with other Kintaros.. atm Kintaro-18 just out classes GB and badly.

eh.Pretty Baby is pretty god awful too.

And if I wasn't such a HBK homer, I'd admit the GridIron is less than good.

No degree in "market analysis"... just making a pretty safe statement... If pgi put the clans on sale for one day they would generate more sales on them.
I'm not suggesting they should do this as it would blow up in their faces when they had to issue credit to all the peeps who paid full price for it.

Just out of curiosity, where did you get your degree in market analysis?

Because you talk like someone who knows.... yet..........

The 50% sales are designed to squeeze a little extra money out of stale hero mechs. The rush for Wangs and X-5s have long since passed. It is a way to invigorate these models. I bought the X-5 even though I am a ways off from leveling them. I probably won't get the Wang because I am not inspired by the Centurion platform and I already leveled 3 variants. Although the Wang has a ton of power in its hand. These 50% off hero sales are one of the rare times that marketing and sales is spot on with a sale. Most of their sales are... well... flaccid. Shameless... I know! It makes people want to logon to the forums or the game servers to see if their is a surprise sale.

not making any such claim (closest I come is 20 years in sales and running businesses. Not the same although I do have to understand trends). Just pointing out that basically, all we are doing is speculating or, in the popular vernacular, talking out of our ***. And TBH this forum is inundated with way too many unsubstantiated claims on these things to begin with.

Isn't that what the forums are for? For the collective mob to get together around the proverbial water cooler and spout information they know nothing about.

Just for curiosity's sake I have similar experience in sales. Not near as much as you cause your years of exp are just a few years shy of my age, but I've been doing it for 5 years abd had to look at similar things. Such as seasonal sales and how quick of a turn around I've got on certain parts.

I'm no expert on the subject of marketing, but I do know if someone can save a few dollars on something they want, it puts them over the edge to buy.

I get where this goes after the "impulse" buy. Not a new concept in marketing by any means. BUT... In the UI 1.5 you went to store, scrolled down a list of mechs divided by weight class and specific model then chose variant. It opened a screen that would let you know the price to buy the mech, oh and one small detail too... ALL the specs that mattered such as weapons, firepower, dam pr sec, heat efficiency, speed, engine and so on so forth. NOW in the new UI 2.0 you get a little picture of the mech and NO info. Just a buy button with price. I suppose if we know to look at Smurfys we could go there. As a noob it was over a week before I accidentally ran across Smurfs. So much for "impulse buying" which is now relegated to look and do web surfing in order to research what you are looking at so you can make a decision after tracking down what that tiny little avatar in the Store Garage actually represents in a mech. I think I would make that job one on changes to UI 2.0. I just can't help but wonder how it got that far? Have the deves never played MWO or are they spoiled more likely by being devs so they ghave EVERY mech at their fingertips and can modify even with out any worrying about "purchasing" anything with "GodMode" level modification powers?

Here's a thought devs. Make a noob account the hard way. Like we all do. Now... Purchase $14.95 worth of MC and THAT's all you get for a couple of months. Because you are pretending to be Joe Working Stiff raising 1.6 kids and helping support a household and this 15 buckaroonees represents your WHOLE budget you can spare every couple of months or so to game with after all the bills are paid and the kids are fed and all. Seriously if you simply get in touch with that there wouldn't be so many questions about what needs work.

BTW somewhere at the edge of the screen MC, CB and GXP should ALL be grouped together and ever present in the MechLab. Now it isn't. In 1.5 it was. It kinda is important to non devs that can't just reach into a folder and grab what we need rather we earn it and spend actual real world money on it be it US dollars or Can Dollars or Deutschmarks or Pounds or Rupees or Euros or what have you. My overall point is I think in all the work it takes to develop all this sometimes the challenges also of the average Joe (or Jane) are forgotten too. I think keeping this in mind at times could influence the look and functionality of the interface. yes I DO like that it is now fullscreen rather than a tiny window. I would LOVE to see much of the former layout with some of the things implemented in the new UI. The old one had many aspects that were NOT broken so didn't need fixing and the new UI has some really sweet shiny things to in look and even some of the functionality. Ultimately a blend of the old and the new would serve best. This is a complicated game with a steep learning curve so as I see it one goal is to keep interfaces as simple and informative as possible. Not to complicate an already complicated game system. I do love this game and my money is already where my mouth is. I would like to spend more but this very day I am afraid to. And I agree with ALL the others. "Saving" a thing, and "Checkout (or in common translation 'to PURCHASE')" a thing are two ENTIRELY different things. THAT is another reason in the NEW UI I am very fearful of saving or checking out. I am on a tight budget and careful about spending and can't afford to accidentally spend money I don't have (as in overdraw a checking account). On that note how about a change on MC purchase page? By default when it opens how about the choice preset to the lowest purchase? The $7 one? NOT the $100 one! Once again... A difference in general thinking...

Not a chance. I love the Boy. It's actually quite decent.

Hero Mechs I regret:
Firebrand
Dragonslayer
Pretty Baby
X-5
Jester
The Boar's Head

My guess is they're just giving the new shiny flash sales functionality a test run this week.
