EMBER

I find that the LB10X is at this kind of sweet spot between damage, range, heat, weight, and ammo. It's my favorite weapon in the game so far.

This mech works surprisingly well. It's not very fast, and can't take much of a beating, but it does put quite a hurting on the enemy. I use it as kind of a mid-range mobile poptart. You want a curved jump instead of straight up and down. Also, because it doesn't take much fuel to reach the requisite height to shoot, and your weapons cycle fairly quickly, you can do this quite frequently compared to other poptarts.

It's almost like playing a tiny medium.

I just came here for a Prodigy music video. :) Personally I thought about a bigger ballistic on it, but it will be horrible due to being to slow without speed tweak. Once I get Tweak Ill expand to some larger ballistic builds.

I made a list of "I'm mastered and bored" builds that have larger ballistics...for when I have speed tweak.

As it is right now, the standard 4 ML 4 MG has netted me a cool 4.0 KDR over the past 20 matches.

That's the thing, in order to get a medium with similar speeds and more firepower, you're playing a larger mech with an XL engine. Much easier to hit, slightly less maneuverable, for not much more hitting power. Sure, it comes with more armor, but if you play it right, armor is almost irrelevant. The first design I posted makes a very able assassin, able to open up the back of an atlas in just a few salvos.

The only medium that could approach this build in capability would be a blackjack, shadowhawk, or trebuchet. The blackjack and trebuchet both die just as easily, and you couldn't hide a shadowhawk behind cover if you tried.

I can't say that the firestarter makes an outright better mech, but it can certainly compete against any medium. Furthermore, the problem with playing lights is that you have to stick with smaller weapons that require constant exposure to rack up higher damage numbers. Having a larger ballistic weapon allows you to hit and run better, limiting exposure to enemy fire. It also gives you better range, which allows you to limit exposure as well. The LB10X is the best weapon for this purpose. It can brawl, it can "snipe", it has decent ammo capacity/damage/weight. It can chase off other lights. It runs cool. It fires fast. It's the best damn weapon in the game.

Speed is not the only thing that protects a light. Being able to hide behind anything, and being hard to hit at range is just as good as armor or speed.

This build fails before the ac20 raven

Having the ballistics in torsos really limits the big gun fun with this one.
