I'm pretty sure the choice most people would make in this example would just be to stop playing the JM6-S / DD and start playing the JM6-A. The only way this could be viable is if they solved the pinpoint alpha meta first. Speed may be life, but alpha is King. You might like the idea of squishier Jaggermechs now, but I guarantee you it would ruin or make overly powerful more than a few 'Mechs. Eg; the Jenner would be getting free extra armor, and the Victor would never be seen again.
Jenner gets free extra armor now.
Victors will still be seen. They outclass many heavies in armor still. They also outclass the Awesome in firepower and maneuverability, just not in armor.
Currently the Jenner D and K start with (respectively) 128 and 125 armor. Current max 238.
The concept in which Buck was proposing as a counter to my "stock + 100 points" is "stock + # tons of armor = new max."
Say stock + 1 ton = new max.
128 stock armor + 1 ton standard armor (32 points) = 160.
128 stock armor + 1 ton set ferro (36 points per ton) = ( (4 + 1 ton = 32*5) + Ferro 4*5) is 180.
Jager A (most armored Jager). 256 stock armor. Current max, 422.
Stock + 1 ton = new max.
Stock (8 tons) + 1 ton standard armor (32 points per ton) = 288.
Stock (8 tons) + 1 ton made ferro armor (36 points per ton) = 324.
Atlas. Stock, 608. Current max 614.
Stock + 1 ton = new max.
Stock (19 tons) + 1 ton standard armor (32 points per ton) = 640.
Stock (19 tons) + 1 ton made ferro armor (36 points per ton) = 720.
I can definitely say it won't only be lights that benefit from that ferro concept. Even if you don't safe much weight at all, you get a fair benefit indeed.
Oh and random fun fact: The 4 UAC/5 Jagermech design that's floating around? Happens to use 192 armor (Jager S) and if you're lucky enough not to jam and use it at range, it's devastating and butchers enemies quite fast. But yeah, my concept was stock + 100 across the board so that armor was well above stock values but at an even number instead. (Interestingly the Spider would only gain 2 points of armor above its current max; yet the Urban mech would have enough to be reasonably viable even with an engine limit of 62 kph after elites.).

But anyway. Simply4Riot (the OP) did get his answers. While escorting some newer players into the field I happened to saw him on the opposing team. A kill, modest damage, can't recall the mech but it wasn't a trial.
I confess we did indeed get side tracked.
I have an idea; those interested in discussing the armor ideas more do let me know and I'll throw us all either into our own little thread or one of those annoying pop in your face forum message thingies!
