Do we have an IRC channel set up for MWO? I know it's not ideal but it would give us a place to chat about the game and such aside from the forums and have a hang out spot for new players to find groups (even if they don't want TS you can still group up), get advice, tips, show off builds, etc.

If we don't already have one would it be something worth setting up? (In other words would you guys use it?)

As someone who has hung up his microphone (but not his headset) to maintain marital bliss... I support this.

But please implement a Goon/Word of Lowtax-Protector.

I fear this channel would be flooded with trolls.

Edit: 900. Post, yey.

Well we could set up moderation on it to keep the trolling to a minimum along with mute and block options. We could use a modified CoC from the forums.

I say: forward your ideas to Garth or Kyle, I'm pretty sure something like this would be appreciated by the guys.

I would volunteer as a german moderator :D Or an english one, but I'm not sure if my english is good enough for that.

Eh, this would be community driven until such time as we actually get lobbies. I'm just trying to come up with some ideas that will let the community take a few things upon ourselves to help alleviate some of the shortcomings. Money isn't always the only way to support a project like this :D

I'll talk with a few that are more literate when it comes to setting up things like this and see what ideas we can come up with. Maybe we can have something up and running over the next few days.

Any suggestions on how to set it up (types of channels, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a Sephlock appreciation channel, moderated by yours truly.

That's all we really need, TBH.

I agree, I jsut can't decide if it should be called "Seph's Secret Saferoom" or "Low ELO hangout" :D

or maybe "Scrub entrance"
"If you suck at MWO start here"
lol

Why not setup an IRC channel on one of the larger chat servers such as irc.quakenet.org or irc.freenode.net? Or there may be an already exsisting channel we could populate.

I'm open to any of those suggestions. I'm just trying to come up with a "workaround" for not having lobbies. Something we, as a community, probably could have done way back when

My W.I.P Mech game community site has a chat room if you guys would want to use that but I'm up for an IRC channel as well.

That would be awesome.I just think it's gotten to the point where if we want to help the community (new players especially) we're going to have to take things into our own hands. I don't know about you guys but I can remember when if you wanted a league style game and persistent type setting it was up to the players to set that up. I see no reason why we can't do that same. We can't do actual leagues effectively without private matches BUT we could set up a community outside of the forums and maybe keep the toxicity at low levels?

It's rare that a new player comes here for info and finds anything other than circle arguments on some of the more popular hot topics at the moment. Eventually it could flow right into leagues when we do get private matches and we would have recruitment and help centers already in place and used on a regular basis

That's the whole plan with my site (But with MWO and HG:A). Just need some help, big thing for just one person AND since we have two months til Private lobbies we can play the league rules as well.

Ok so what needs to be done and how do we go about it? I'm willing to help any way I can.

Just an FYI aside, I'm also trying to gauge interest in incorporating SC eventually as an aerospace portion of Btech and tracking stats there for an all-encompassing type thing. Gotta win battles in space sector a before attacking planet b and stuff like that. I don't know about your units but I know there are at least a few that will play SC more than MWo, some that will play both, and some that will continue playing MWO more. So if enough players are willing to have create factions there that emulate the factions we have here we could cross-genre both games and create something bigger (although that is a ways off sicne SC isn't playable yet)

I don't have a unit, I'm mostly a PUGer but I do have ships in SC and Gears in HG so I'm set. But I'll message you to give details.

Ok bud, just let me know. I don't want this to be a "unit" thing though units would be welcome. I want it to be a community thing so players can converse in real time and new players needing help are more likely to get better responses than what I've seen them get in game a lot of times or posting for advice on the forums and then watching 20 people argue over what the "best whatever" is

What a wonderful idea!
An IRC channel(s) would definitely benefit new players, and the community as a whole.
Will be keeping my eye on this thread, eager for updates.

Let me know if there's any way I can help with this effort.
