I like this build alot, its amazing for the cost.
Would like to see a test comparison of this one vs the one i posted above for MWO, would be interesting results!

I personally have a 4790K and two GTX 780s, but I also have a cushy federal job with awesome benefits -- not everybody has that, but you are right -- I personally would squeeze pennies and at least get an i5 with something like a 270X -- but that would be at least $600 pinching pennies from every other component besides the CPU/GPU; the spirit of the thread is hey, we got a $500 hard limit, reasons immaterial -- what can you make with it for the best MWO experience?

That dual core CPU is a beast, capable of overclocking well into the 4.5GHZ+ and delivers outstanding per core performance, so for games where thats important ala MWO it should work perfectly fine, in some game benchmarks that dual core CPU pulls alongside quad cores and in some better frames than quad cores.
But to do the overclocking may require some additional funds on motherboards

For a budget CPU, its the place to be.

The whole article is relevant, i linked from the first game review, not just a single game and also why i provided links from two sights.
And the page you linked, has 1MS frame time variance on average and even in that Toms agree it is only 3MS max.
If your not referring to that and are looking at the FPS, im unsure what your point is, as the chip achieves over 60FPS in Grid 2 across the board.
So perhaps you want to understand the figures your linking and set out your issue with them because the page you linked shows nothing amiss.
Budgets mean something also, so you can't always fit what you would like into those budgets.

I travel for work on a 21 on and 10 off schedule, so most of my playing is on the road. My current laptop runs at the lowest settings to make the game smooth, about 21-24 FPS if I have a good connection.

Ok you don't know what Frame Variance is so we'll skip that.
It seems like your grasping at straws out of a fear of dual core.
When we talk about a game being playable we're talking about obtaining the much discussed 60FPS mark or damn close to it.
You've made %'s to make your argument look stronger ignoring the fact that across minimum, average, maximum the dual core is above 60FPS at 1080P highest settings in your CPU bound game and thus resolvent of the %'s or higher FPS mark the dual core essentially plays the game at the same required level as the vastly more expensive quad core.
So your CPU bound means something is correct, and ultimately irrelevant in what your trying to prove as the dual core becomes CPU bound past the level of acceptable gaming in this and many other instances.
So now the thread is about $500 builds or as close to it as possible, your going to struggle to do that choosing an intel quad core.

If your talking $500 laptops that's going to be pretty much impossible if your budget is higher then we might be able to find something

The thread is about builds that play MW:O.
Duel-cores do this badly.
If you want to buy a new system, but can't afford one that gets the job done, then you keep on saving.
Advice to buy a duel-core, at this point in history, is bad.

This is where your misinformed, MWO is highly dependent on per core performance, old dual cores certainly are bad at this and thus the quad core requirement.
This Haswell Dual core delivers that per core performance, and makes it possible.
The only issue will be the variance in frame time, which may produce stutter.
And of course we can't account for PGI's terrible coding.
If you live in the past sure, your correct.
Like you say the thread is about machines that will play MWO the machines above will play MWO at budget level...that is what we are talking about.
Anyone can make a build of any cost, but we are talking of $500 machines, not $580 or 600 or 700 $500 or less.
Which generally leaves you at AMD chips (bad) Dual Core Haswell and mid range GPU (ok) or Quad Core Haswell and low end GPU.
