This is one of those parts of the game that is a true disaster. Because the art direction is one of their strong points.

But when it comes to modeling the mech, they REPEATEDLY make the same mistakes.

It's very frustrating. And they know it too...someone HAS to have some oversight on this, so that they don't keep releasing giant medium mechs.

It's half the reason the Victor is so good, same size as a medium, jump jets, 80kph, but with assault weapons and armor.

The Victor is basically a flying Centurion. Comparable size and overall shape (big shoulders, wide arms, but not a lot of torso area to hit), which is insane. Of course, part of this is because of the Centurion is badly oversized, so the fault doesn't lie solely with the Victor, but problems like this still add up.

Look at the least played mechs: Trebuchets, Awesomes, Quickdraws... all of them bigger than they should be and often with other problems that seal the deal.

Even the Shadow Hawk is huge, it just has really good hitboxes and great weapon placement. I just don't get it.

The funny thing is that the Dragon 1C has high weapon placements in its left (had the wrong one) shoulder. But, it is so massive compared to the Shawk, plus not having JJs and the massive heat involved in running 2x PPCs, that it can't compete. The irony of that is that the Dragon was designed to replace the agine Shawk (in lore). Near the same speed but like 30% bigger and it can't skip, hop, or jump. Plus, it is as long from front to back as it is side to side. Nifty :)

/beatdeadhorse

This has been beat to hell and back.

One would think that armor carried would determine mech size.
But, yeah, about that...

Someone did make a post the other day that I thought was sort of interesting. They mentioned altering armor levels based on the overall surface area of a mech. So, massive mechs like the Awesome, Dragon, etc would be able to receive either an armo bump or like a damage mitigation quirk while the smaller mechs would be left as is. Would be pretty sweet if the bigger mechs were treated as if they all had missile bay doors closed all the time (ie -10% damage received on the torsos).

Does that missile door thing still exists with the new way they do hardpoints graphics?

Perhaps, seeing as we have Maps, some diligent souls (only need 2 players) could take some of the Mechs in question and do a sort of Police Line-Up thing. Surely there is a particular building, on a particular Map that could be used as a Grid background to show Height/Width comparisons. Hmm I wonder if 3rd person solo on a Training Map would work. :)

The Awesome is that way as that is what an Awesome is. Some of the others? Relative Pics for comparison would surely help.

People have done them before. PGI doesn't do much with them.

Only on the mechs that had the doors grandfathered in which is really only the Catapult, Centurion, and the Stalker. Nothing else in the game has bay doors.

You can actually take screen shots of the UI2.0 with each mech to show the relative height. Would be kind of cool if some bored player would take the time to do it.

Didn't think so.

I'm personally a fan of extended fights.

I'm not into this whole insta-gib thing we have going on.

But then again I didn't mind playing in Alterac Valley for hours in WoW either.

I think there is something to a War of Attrition style game, rather than just "Point, Click, Profit".

I miss Alterac Valley. The days back when games would last days were so much fun. I can remember, as a Hunter (yes, I was one of them), sitting back at the first Blood graveyard and holding off entire masses of players thanks, mostly in part, to the power of the guards and the elite LTs. I can also remember being in a match for up to 6 hours and logging out to go to bed only to wake up the next morning and getting in the same exact game that I left. Those were the days.

Yeah it's a lost style. A lot of instant gratification now. I realize that Everquest and AV in WoW and such are never coming back.

But at the rate this game is going, I might just move to Titanfall for a more polished experience, why would I bother with this?

I just don't get it.
