Remove XL Engines from the game.

For additional hilarity: remove double heat sinks.

Would probably feel a lot more like Mechwarrior than the silly AlphaStrikeOnline we currently have.

Hell, I'd probably pay MC just to play in such a queue.

People would just alpha strike with ballistics exclusively instead of mixed energy + ballistics, and rarely use more than a few ML as their energy weapons.

Also, indirect buff to mechs that are already effective without XL engines, i.e. Misery and Atlas, and I think many Highlanders use STD too. Indirect nerf to mechs that basically need an XL to shine (particularly lights).

your right it would be fun for a change of pace, but just like FupDup said. It would just change the flavor of the month mech.

Back in my day all we had were single heat-sinks, and we loved it. We all ran around in ~120kph 4Ps and 4SP alpha-striking our small lasers and SRMs all day long.

Fear was an 8-man of bowling Dragons, or Honey Badgers.

And since running an XL engine meant dishing out several million c-bills in repairs when you died, many folks didn't have those anyway. :D

No we didn't. I was there in your days... I distinctly did not love it! I could work it, but that is a completely different tune. :D

Speak for yourself. :( I had a sad when they added gyro weight to engines because it screwed up my 4SP build, and then I had an even bigger sad when they said, "Hey guys, here, have engine size restrictions."

When they upped the Hunchie engine max to 275 and redesigned the 4J to compact the hunch I rebuilt a facsimile of my old 4SP. Despite being a pale shadow of its former self, when the SRMs work driving that thing is the most fun I've had in this game since closed beta.

I don't see why they went the route they did with the Gyros and cockpits. It caused much heartburn and confusion!

My preferred change of pace would be double armor points for all mechs, accompanied by a 140% ballistic and 200% missile ammo/ton increase.

It's a guilty desire.

My Jagermechs could handle it with only slight tweaking. I am not afraid.

Bah! I myself was thinking of a 50% reduction in ammo and missiles.

Orrrr reduce the heat cap for DHS to like 20 (yes, it's low) so they can have their higher dissipation but not the 4-5 alpha strike chain, and give the high heat cap to SHS so that if a player wants to do something in alpha striking, they can without shutting down.

Brawlers would enjoy DHS, Snipers might enjoy SHS. It also makes it so that snipers would have a real problem in brawling since they wouldn't be able to do as much sustained fire- as compared to know where they just brawl with Sniper weapons if they have to (better known as close range sniping).

I think it would slow down the heavy weapon sniping to where they could, but not as often, and allow brawlers to possibly even.. well.. brawl.

DHS = Sustained DPS (Brawling)
SHS = Burst DPS (Sniping/Striking)

ECM still needs changed. XL engines are fine as they are. They are weight saving, but a death sentence on most anything but a light- and clan mechs don't get a choice. (As of now.)

@Ngamok: Boomjager without a XL is going to run a little slow is it not?

I'll admit that a "3025 Mode" in private matches could be fun :D

There are standard engine meta builds for Cataphract 3D's, Victors and Highlanders.

The idea of a 3025 tech mode is interesting however, but has nothing to do with the current balance and meta.

Well he said no XL and no DHS so yea. It will be the highest alpha coolest running mech with the K2 and CTFs.

Also I shouldn't have said BoomJager, whatever the term being used for dual Gauss is on the Jager.

3025 drop mode? Might be fun.

Still will be Alpha-Stike heavy though, you'll just lean even more towards balistics.
